Thomas, Newt, Minho,, must make their way through the Scorch, a desolate wasteland crawling with plagued humans known as Cranks, and arrive at the designated Safe Haven before time runs out.

The first film's director Wes Ball is expected back to call action using an adapted script by T.S. Nowlin, who co-wrote the first film with Noah Oppenheim and Grant Pierce Myers.  Ball and some of the film's cast showed up during the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con at Hall H to debut a fresh trailer and scenes from the film. Towards the end of the presentation, Ball announced that development on the sequel was underway. The panel followed a secret fan screening of the film which garnered enthusiastic reviews across social media.

Unlike other young adult film franchises 'Maze' cost a very economical $34 million - which it has essentially made back in its domestic opening weekend alone.
