Andrew Garfield May Climb "Hacksaw Ridge"

Deadline reports that Andrew Garfield is tipped to star in the World War II drama "Hacksaw Ridge".


The film will be based on the life of Desmond Doss, the first conscientious objector to win the Congressional Medal of Honor for saving dozens of soldiers during the Battle of Okinawa while serving as a medic. He received two Bronze Stars and three Purple Hearts.

Randall Wallace co-wrote the script with Robert Schenkkan. Mel Gibson is in talks to take the helm here--his first time doing so since Apocalypto in 2006 .

David Permut, Bill Mechanic, Brian Oliver and Tyler Thompson  are producing.
