Plot RUMORS: "Suicide Squad" Movie

Rumors abound regarding  Fury and "End of Watch" director David Ayer's film version of DC Entertainment's "Suicide Squad" comic book over at Warner Bros.

The comic created by John Ostrander centers on incarcerated villains from the DC universe being recruited as deniable assets by the Government to go on high-risk black ops missions in exchange for more lenient or even commuted sentences. Amanda Waller ("The Help" and "How to Get Away with Murder" star Viola Davis) a prison warden and government agent is in charge of the program.

Davis beat out both Oprah Winfrey and Octavia Spencer for the Waller role.

Oscar winner Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) is playing the role of The Joker--Ryan Gosling was originally up for the role, but he was "unwilling to sign a deal with options for multiple movies" Joker was last portrayed by the late Heath Ledger who gave an Academy Award-winning performance in The Dark Knight. Leto was also in the running to play the lead in Marvel's long gestating Doctor Strange movie--a role that Sherlock and "Star Trek Into Darkness" star Benedict Cumberbatch now has.

"The Wolf of Wall Street" actress Margot Robbie will play Harley Quinn  In the DC mythology Quinn is sidekick to The Clown Prince Of Crime.Robbie has been on the radar to take a role in the film shortly after the project was announced. The Quinn character was not in the early drafts of the script.

British model and actress Cara Delevingne was circling the role as well--but instead she will play
a sorceress named Enchantress.

Will Smith is tipped to play Floyd Lawton, aka. the assassin Deadshot. Australian actor Jai Courtney ("A Good Day To Die Hard," "Divergent") lands the role of Digger Harkness a.k.a. Captain Boomerang.

Despite earlier reports, Jesse Eisenberg is not part of the official cast, but that doesn't rule out a potential cameo appearance as Lex Luthor Eisenberg plays Lex in Zack Snyder's "Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice

We recently learned that Tom Hardy dropped out of playing team leader Rick Flag in  the film. The official reasons given for Tom's exit was due to scheduling conflicts  with the currently filming Alejandro González Iñárritu frontier drama "The Revenant" co-starring Leonardo DiCaprio The shoot is now running long. And then there are his press commitments for "Mad Max: Fury Road" will have him busy throughout May, colliding with the filming on 'Squad'. Warners has already made overtures to Jake Gyllenhaal to potentially replace Hardy--an offer said to be on the table. Gyllenhaal previously worked with Ayer on "End of Watch"

Latino Review's saying that Hardy backed out after learning about some "drastic changes to his character" in the script. The various actors cast in the film reportedly didn't get the script before signing on, and when he did he didn't like it. Even so, he apparently left the project on amicable terms.

POTENTIAL MAJOR PLOT SPOILERS AHEAD

Latino Review talks about how both Luthor and The Joker will affect the film, and further details on the character of Rick Flagg.

*The Joker will apparently be seen early on as Harley Quinn attempts to break him out of Arkham Asylum. He is later moved to Belle Reve by Waller in order to keep Harley in line and spends most of the film in a Hannibal Lecter-style cell until he breaks out at the end during a prison riot, and kills several people in the process.

*Lex Luthor is said to be the team's target, or rather a human trafficking gang intent on selling him a piece of bio weaponary - The Enchantress. She will then be kept in an underground area of the prison which is also filled with genetic freaks. As a result there's no guarantee Eisenberg's Lex will even make an appearance--he's more of a macguffin here.

*Flagg's role in the film seemingly involves a potential major twist. He starts out the film as a good guy, more government agent than superhero who is tasked with keeping an eye on Waller. The twist? Flagg is revealed to be a villain in cahoots with his father Rick Flag Sr. Both want to get their hands on Waller's weapons.

Meantime Forbes magazine reports that "Dawn of Justice" star  Ben Affleck's Bruce Wayne/Batman will make an appearance at the end of 'Squad'.

*According to their source, Batman appears in a "in-story scene" and deals with "circumstances surrounding The Joker". The scene with Affleck's Batman would set up a potential standalone film in which Batman squares off against an "escaped Joker," much like the third issue of Frank Miller’s 1980s ground-breaking mini-series The Dark Knight Returns.

*The film is also expected to introduce Gotham City Police Commissioner Ellen Yindel, who replaces Commissioner Jim Gordon in the comic. Earlier reports suggested that Gordon has been dead for some time prior to our glimpse into the DC Cinematic Universe.
