Next "Friday the 13th" May Adress Jason's Immortality

In a recent interview with Esquire magazine, Platinum Dunes suit Brad Fuller talked about the company's upcoming second attempt to reboot of the Friday the 13th film franchise.

Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, who wrote the 2009 reboot--that starred Jared Padalecki and Danielle Panabaker--and "Freddy vs. Jason", have returned to do the script for the new Friday the 13th which deals with the continuity of the series.

It seems that the next chapter may deal with how iconic hockey mask wearing killer Jason Voorhees is seemingly killed at the end of every movie before coming back to life in the next:

"There's always been this supernatural aspect to these movies. It defies logic that, you see Jason get killed in every movie, including ours, the 2009 one. And then he comes back and no one's ever really investigated what that is. So that's something that I think about a little bit. Like it is supernatural, but what is he? Those are the things that we're toying with. Nothing has been decided. But those type of things: How does he always come back?"

Fuller says that director and horror veteran David Bruckner ("The Signal") brought up the idea, and as a result the franchise may add a recurring character like Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasance) in the Halloween film series to explore the psychology of the character:

"People traditionally want to understand exactly how and why things happen, and yet something so odd happens at the end of these movies and no one seems to question it. So people come to the movie with the expectation that the real villain will be killed and come back. And yet we never toyed with that notion. Those are the things that we're asking ourselves. And we'll see what comes of it."

Fuller says this will NOT be a found footage film, and it is expected to be made for less than the $20 million spent on 2009's reboot.

Michael Bay, Fuller and Andrew Form are producing the film.

The plan is to begin filming by the end of this year. The film is currently targeting a May 13th 2016 release.
