Tatiana Seigel of Variety:
Shawn Levy (pictured) is attached to direct and produce the dramedy "Father Figure" at Fox 2000.
Story centers on a successful bachelor who boldly offers to care for his widowed sister and her daughters in the aftermath of a family tragedy.
Tom McCarthy has been tapped to rewrite a screenplay penned by Mark Friedman.
Levy is producing "Father Figure" through his Fox-based 21 Laps shingle. Basil Iwanyk is executive producing. Tom McNulty and Billy Rosenberg are shepherding the project for 21 Laps. Fox 2000's Carla Hacken is overseeing for the studio.
As a helmer, Levy has a long-standing relationship with Fox, the studio behind "Just Married," "Cheaper by the Dozen" and "Night at the Museum". 21 Laps is in post-production on the Rainn Wilson vehicle "The Rocker" for Fox Atomic and "What Happens in Vegas...", starring Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher, for Fox.
The shingle is in pre-production on the sequel to "Museum," which Levy will direct and produce for Fox. That pic is aiming for a spring start.
Levy is a solid comedy director (I think I'm the only person on the planet who thinks Just Married is worth the trip down the aisle) and while I eagerly await to see what he does with "Vegas", I'm also curious to see how he handles "Figure"'s more dramatic elements as well...
