"Got A Commendation For Original Thinking"

A very big year for Star Trek begins with this....

Tyler Perry (pictured) is trading in his Madea female fat suit that he uses to play the character for a Starfleet uniform...The playwright/actor/director is on board JJ Abrams upcoming reboot of the "Star Trek " film franchise, as first reported exclusively by the folks at UGO.

This would mark the first time that Perry, who has been making a highly profitable series of films over the last few years, has appeared in a movie outside of his own projects.

According to the site (SPOILERS AHEAD), Perry would play the head of Starfleet Academy and will oversee an academic hearing over Cadet James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) and his cheating in the Kobiyashi Maru simulation (an event referenced previously in "Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan").

Kirk, facing expulsion from the Academy, demands to know who has accused him of cheating. That person, as it turns out is Spock (Zachary Quinto) setting the stage for the famed pair's initial meeting.

I have great respect for Perry and all that he has been able to accomplish. He has found a way to make his films into hits--crossing this nation's still all too wide racial divide...Making him the perfect fit to appear in a Trek flick...
