Director Chris Columbus is in negotiations to helm the long-in development g "Ripley's Believe It or Not! according to Variety.Jim Carrey is still attached to star as newspaper columnist-explorer Robert Ripley who goes on strange adventures that defy explanation.
Originally supposed to go into production last year with Tim Burton in charge, Columbus has pitched a new concept that the studio suits and Carrey seem to like.
As a result, the original China-based storyline will be totally scrapped. Very soon a writer will be charged to draft the new script.
As the man who first brought Harry Potter from page to screen--Columbus seems ideal for this project.
The film is now aiming for a 2011 release.
