Powering Up

The first theatrical trailer for the Star Trek reboot that hit theaters on Friday and leaked online in bootleg form over the weekend is now available in HD over at Apple.com.

Garth Franklin of Dark Horizons tracked reaction to the footage:

...talkback comments from around the Net has proven surprisingly varied, though the positives seem to be easily outweighing the negatives. Non-fans of the series in particular seem overwhelmingly enthusiastic about the preview whereas hardcore fans are understandably a bit more guarded.

Personally, still not sold but this has definitely moved my position from 'curious but wary' to 'curious and hopeful'.

Meanwhile, the first TV spot ran during the latest episode of J.J. Abrams, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman's Fringe (a really cool show by the way)....Basically a 60 sec version of the trailer...

Abrams tells Empire Online that there was a major subplot in the film involving the Klingons that ended up being excised as "it confused the story in a way that I thought was very cool but unnecessary."

Abrams promises that we will see the Klingon Warbird ships in the film but "maybe not in the way you expect."

On Monday JJ met with the press about the footage and the film....

The Trek media blitz is now in full swing and will contiue to build until May 8th 2009...
