The novel "In the Hand of Dante" is being adapted for the screen as a potential star vehicle for Johnny Depp reports Variety.Written by Nick Tosches in '02 the tale uses Dante's "The Divine Comedy," as a backdrop telling a parallel story involving Dante in 14th-century Italy as he tries to complete the work, and a contemporary storyline involving Tosches, who is asked to authenticate what might be Dante's original manuscript.
Depp would play Tosches and co-produce the film.
His production company Infinitum Nihil has a first-look deal.
