Joe II

Since it pulled in some $55 million at the domestic box-office over the weekend--a sequel to G.I. Joe The Rise of Cobra is already being prepped...Well Duh!

Paramount Pictures vice-suit Rob Moore told The LA Times that the project will "soon go into development" with all the actors "contractually obligated to return". Not locked in yet is director Stephen Sommers who, though will be offered the film, also has the option of not returning to call action.

Garth Franklin of Dark Horizons says:

Concerns now are for the film's second weekend box-office. With a 15% drop from Friday to Saturday, there's talk that bad word-of mouth could hurt it. Judd Apatow's "Funny People" suffered a similar opening/second day drop the previous weekend, and fell a whopping 65% in its second weekend which just past.

Coming in at a budget of $175 million to produce and nearly that much again to market, the film needs that domestic theatrical run to be stellar in order to greenlight a sequel.

Like the far better received
Star Trek earlier this Summer, worldwide revenue for the film is expected to be quite slim due to the property either being unknown or dismissed as some violent, pro-military kiddie fare in some key foreign markets who're otherwise more receptive to blockbusters...
