AKA "The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman", Efron plays a suburbanite who spontaneously travels to Eastern Europe to find himself. He soon falls for an alluring young woman and the only thing standing between them is her charismatic, dangerous ex from a criminal underworld. Armed with little more than his wit and naive charm, Efron endures one bruising beat down after another in order to woo the girl he loves and achieve salvation.

I'm by no means an expert but I did think he was excellent in 17 Again.
I would agree--considering 17 Again had a well worn premise--I still thought the film was quite entertaining in part due to Efron
