When Disney/Pixar announced the November 2012 release for Monsters, Inc. prequel Monsters University, it seemingly marked the first time that two Disney/Pixar titles hit cinemas in the same calendar year, the other one being Brave. Talk about strange!
Well, it looks like we won’t find out how peculiar that would have been. The Hollywood Reporter relays that Disney/Pixar moved the film to a release on June 21, 2013. In University’s originally intended November 2, 2011 slot, Disney will release the animated feature Reboot Ralph.
I’m glad that Disney/Pixar made this move. As much as I love the collaboration’s products time and time again, two in one year just seems like a foreign concept in my eyes. Additionally, it would likely squander the chances for both Brave and Monsters University to strike Oscar gold, and being the Oscar junkie that I am, it would have certainly thrown a wrench into my awards season predictions.
What’s more, it’s great to see them spreading out their films in this manner. Makes the final product all the more satisfying after all of that anticipation.
