RIP Jackie Cooper (1922-2011)

Academy Award nominated actor Jackie Cooper has died...As a devotee of Superman The Movie this one is particularly poignant.

TMZ reports he passed away yesterday at a hospital in Beverly Hills after a sudden illness He was 88

Cooper played Daily Planet editor Perry White in the first 4 Supes features including Superman II, Superman III and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace.

But there was so much more...He appeared in the famous Our Gang comedy shorts as a child, received an Oscar nomination for Skippy And then there was his performance in the original version of The Champ opposite Wallace Beery from 1931

He did an episode of the original Twilight Zone in '64 called Caesar and Me

Cooper was quite a prolific director of episodic TV as well; segments of M*A*S*H  Quincy M.E. The Rockford Files Black Sheep Squadron and The White Shadow are just a few of his TV gigs

Cooper announced his retirement in 1989, although he was still directing episodes of the syndicated series The Adventures of Superboy...

I must again offer thanks to Mr Cooper who helped to shape decisions in my life Rest easy sir
