Filmmaker Peter Segal tells ComingSoon that the long-gestating live action movie based on
the 1960's Hanna-Barbera adventure cartoon "Jonny Quest" is still in the works.
Segal has been attached to the project since 2008 and he hopes it will be his next film:
"I would love to make that my next movie. We just hired a
writer to do another pass. We already have a very good script. Then we
go through budgeting hell and trying to get it into shape."
"Quest" follows a young boy (voiced at time by actor
Tim Matheson!!) who accompanies his
scientist father Benton on thrilling adventures investigating scientific
mysteries around the world. Joining him was his adopted brother from Calcutta named Hadji, his pet bulldog Bandit, and the government agent assigned to protect them.
The series was revived in the 80's's and then again in the 90's as The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest.
Dan Mazeau wrote an earlier draft of the
film's script when Zac Efron was linked to play the lead and Dwayne Johnson was up for the role Johnny's bodyguard Race Bannon back in 2009.
Richard Donner and
wife Lauren Shuler Donner attempted to bring 'Quest' to the big
screen as far back as 1994.
