Spidey 2: Keeping Up With The Osborns

As we saw in the recent domestic trailer for Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2 actor Chris Cooper's Norman Osborn looks deathly ill. It appears that he will not stay that way for long.

In a chat with Moviefone about the sequel--Cooper says:

"This is a very strange introduction for Norman Osborn. I just can't reveal why it's that way, but this is not the beginning of Norman. It is the introduction, but it's not the beginning, and I think that's as far as I can go."

Asked if he was signed up for the third movie, he says Osborn's introduction is "going to lead to other things down the road."

He adds:

"I'm under the impression that this is going to carry on... An actor has to do these big tentpole productions something like once every five years. It just keeps the name alive, as some of these smaller films that may not make it around the world tend not to do."

At the same time, The Daily Bugle tie-in viral site for the movie offers a little bit more detail about the the Osborn father/son dynamic in the sequel.

Norman has been in seclusion and has not been seen in public in months, leading to mounting speculation about his health and concern over when his son Harry will take over. Harry meanwhile is living it up on the French Riviera with a bevy of supermodels while pressure mounts on him to assume control of Oscorp.

In the comics Norman Osborn--eventually becomes Spidey's number one foe--The Green Goblin--The character was played previously by Willem Dafoe.

Andrew Garfield will return as Peter Parker and Emma Stone is gonna reprise her role as Gwen Stacy. Do these set pics confirm that the classic story The Night Gwen Stacy Died is part of the film? For the record Stone endorsed the idea last August when The Amazing Spider-Man was still in theaters...

Dane DeHaan ("Chronicle") has won the role of Harry Osborn Osborn of course is Peter Parker's best friend and eventual enemy who was played by James Franco previously. Jamie Foxx will be playing bad guy Electro. Paul Giamatti plays the villain, the Rhino Sally Field is back as Aunt May.
Felicity Jones (Like Crazy), plays Norman's girlfriend in the film. Former Office star B.J. Novak has an unspecified role in the film. While there was speculation that actress Sarah Gadon ("Cosmopolis," "A Dangerous Method") was going to be the new Mary Jane Watson, given the fact that Shailene Woodley's performance as the character had been cut.  As it turns out though Gadon DOES appear in "Amazing 2" after all as an entirely different character. She is actually playing an android cop.

Here's the Sony Pictures' official synopsis:

"We've always known that Spider-Man's most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead. It's great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there's no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp."

Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner wrote the script based on a previous draft by James Vanderbilt.

Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach will produce.

The new film is now in post-production to meet its May 2nd 2014 release date.

Both The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 4 already have release dates--The writers of Amazing 2 are also set to return for the 3rd film

The series will grow from there to include other members of the extended Spidey family
