With Bryan Singer's "X-Men: Days of Future Past" behind him actor Hugh Jackman has fulfilled his contract playing Wolverine and is no longer committed to any other future films in the X-Men film series.
We know Fox is moving forward with plans for a Wolverine Sequel and that "The Wolverine" director James Mangold is tipped to return and the just announced "X-Men: Apocalypse".
The question is could Jackman be coaxed back to play the clawed mutant?
He tells Vanity Fair he's not sure:
"I don’t know whether or not I will do this next movie. I am really proud of (The Wolverine) and I am excited to develop something with Jim Mangold from the beginning because that is a great ride. That’s exciting, to see what we come up with but I have a very high expectation of what it would need to be [for me to star in it] and if it doesn’t reach those, I won’t be doing it."
He adds though that he and Mangold have been in touch with ideas for the project. However, there is no script yet
Mangold told The Wall Steet Journal recently that whatever story they do develop, it will likely be derived from the comics--directly or indirectly:
"I would just say it is always going to be about his relationships to other characters. We are very much trying to work with existing text. There are other great Wolverine stories out there but suffice it to say there are great texts about his connections to others, villains, characters from the lore and from the comics that we can bring out and have another great and meaningful adventure."
