"Shazam" Movie IS Part Of DCU After All

Back in September we were told that the upcoming film adaptation of the DC Entertainment title "Shazam" and the big screen exploits of "Captain Marvel" would NOT tie into the larger Cinematic Universe where "Man Of Steel," "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and "Justice League" reside.

A new blog post on the official DC Comics site, confirms that "Shazam" IS going to be a part of the same universe as Henry Cavill's Superman/Clark Kent and Ben Affleck's Bruce Wayne/Batman:

For fans who were hoping to see a DC Cinematic Universe similar to what they've seen from other publishers, one that included super heroes other than Superman or Batman, there didn't seem to be a lot to talk about. That changed on October 15, 2014, when Warner Bros. revealed a full slate of ten DC Entertainment feature films all set within the same universe.

The quote includes a link to the line-up announcement that includes "Shazam".

In the comics, Shazam is the alter ego Billy Batson, a boy who can transform into superhero form by saying the word 'Shazam' and is able to use the powers of six mythological god.

Dwayne Johnson is set to play the villain Black Adam in the film.

Darren Lemke ("Turbo," "Jack the Giant Slayer") has been hired to write the script but no production date is set. New Line has not confirmed a release date for "Shazam" yet.

Meantime "Guardians of the Galaxy" director James Gunn revealed on Facebook recently that if he  were allowed to do a DC franchise, he "would have love to have done Shazam". He can't do it though because he is "precluded" by Marvel from doing so .
