RIP Isaac Hayes (1942-2008)

Singing icon Isaac Hayes has died...

Hayes' wife found him on the floor near a treadmill inside his home located just east of Memphis, Tennessee this afternoon. He was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, where he was pronounced dead. The cause of death is not immediately known.

The deep velvet voiced performer had as much success in front of the camera as he did in front of the microphone.

He won an academy award for the title song in 1971's Shaft 10 years later he appeared on screen as The Duke in John Carpenter's cult classic Escape from New York...And then came the comedy spoofs I'm Gonna Git You Sucka and Robin Hood: Men in Tights...Reindeer Games and Hustle & Flow...

But to millions of fans of the controversial animated series "South Park" he will be remembered as the voice of Chef-even heard in the movie South Park: Bigger Longer & Uncut from 1999-until he left following a very public dispute with the creators in '06.

Heck, he even showed up in the family pic Flipper....

Hayes also had tons of memorable TV appearances to his credit...
