Shaky Foundation

has won the big screen rights to author Isaac Asimov's epic science fiction tales in the Foundation trilogy developing it for director Roland Emmerich call action says Variety.

Originally published as a series of eight short stories, Foundation is a complex saga about humans who are scattered on planets throughout the galaxy, living under the rule of the Galactic Empire.

A psycho-historian who can scientifically read the future sees an imminent empire collapse, and sets to work preparing to save the knowledge of mankind.

The project has made the rounds at the studios.. originally at Fox before heading to Warner Bros.

Emmerich and Sony beat out a Warner Bros./director Alex Proyas and Fox/producer Vince Gerardis at an auction for the property.

Ugh! One of the greatest sci-fi stories ever written is in the hands of a hatchet man--Other than Independence Day and maybe The Patriot--his Godzilla (1998), 10,000 BC, and The Day After Tomorrow were absolutely dreadful-- his upcoming apocalyptic 2012 doesn't look all that great either...

I wish Proyas had gotten the gig...(Sigh)
