Surfer On The Web


Talk of a film return for the fictional character Gidget created by author Frederick Kohner (based on his teenage daughter, Kathy) has been around for months Now Variety says the project is gaining new momentum.

Producer Mark Canton and
Barney Cohen ("Sabrina the Teenage Witch") signed a deal to develop the property for the big screen and small screen.

"Gidget has always been such a strong symbol of girl power," Canton said. "With female surfing exploding across the globe, the time is right to bring her back in a major way."

The character began as a series of novels and then appeared in a trio of films--starring Sandra Dee beginning with 1959's Gidget "Gidget Goes Hawaiian" and "Gidget Goes to Rome". The 1965 TV show made Sally Field a star...
