Ubisoft Heads for the Silver Screen

Ubisoft is perhaps best known for popular video games, but the game publisher looks to venture into motion pictures with its television and film production extension Ubisoft Motion Pictures, which launched this past January.

The studio announced that it will develop 3D films from the following three video game franchises: Ghost Recon, Assassin’s Creed, and Splinter Cell.

Jean de Rivieres, who deals the company’s international distribution and marketing, told Variety that Ubisoft’s “strategy is not to diversify but to bolster the appeal of our franchises -- that's why we want to make sure our films will reflect the brands accurately and consolidate our fan base while expanding beyond the games' primary target audience.”

He also relays that a script – he didn’t specify for which film – would be finished before the year is over.
