World War Z--The Trilogy

Amid growing criticism over director Marc Forster and reported changes as part of his adaptation of World War Z...comes word that in fact plans are afoot to tell the story as a film trilogy.

Pitt On The WW Z Set

The L.A. Times ran a profile piece on star Brad Pitt where he said - "Forster and Paramount each view 'World War Z' as a trilogy that would have the grounded, gun-metal realism of, say, Damon's Jason Bourne series series tethered to the unsettling end-times vibe of AMC's The Walking Dead".

The premise is based on the Max Brooks' created comic book Set a decade after a virus has turned much of the planet's population into zombies, the story follows a journalist interviewing subjects from around the world about their experiences during the 'zombie war'.The book fuses elements of political satire, war and survival horror as it explores how various nations, governments and individuals respond to the crisis.

The comic novel is actually an anthology, each chapter is essentially an interview of a different subject in a different part of the world, allowing each chapter to focus on how people and nations reacted to the crisis before, during and after. To do that in a single film would be a tough sell--Hence Pitt's reference to The Walking Dead.

Mireille Enos, star of the hit TV series The Killing, is gonna play Karin Lane, the wife of Pitt, Anthony Mackie, James Badge Dale also star with Elyes Gabel who will play a character named Fassbach and Bryan Cranston make up the cast list.

Matthew Michael Carnahan, brother of director Joe Carnahan, performed a rewrite on the script.

The (first pic?) is currently due for release next Christmas.
