Sony Pictures nabbed the film rights to the very short-lived 1983 TV series "Manimal" and has plans to turn it into a live-action/CG hybrid film says Heat Vision.
Simon MacCorkindale ("Death on the Nile") starred in the campy show as Dr. Jonathan Chase, a wealthy doctor with a mysterious past, who can shape shift into any animal he chooses in order to help the police fight crime. Melody Anderson ("Flash Gordon") and Michael D. Roberts ("Baretta") co-starred. Only eight episodes aired before the drubbed show was cancelled, though it has since developed a cult following.
Glen A. Larson ("Magnum P.I.," "Knight Rider,") created the original show and will serve as producer on the film
The search for writers is underway.
The move follows Sony's announcement last month of a similar live-action/CG film based on 80's sitcom "Alf".
I love the original special makeup air-bladders effects like the ones they did in the 1980'a horror monster movies... "The Howling," "An American Werewolf In London," and "The Beast Within." They should make the first Manimal Movie! And they should make at least four to seven sequels.
