24 The Movie Has Been Scrapped Says Fuqua

Olympus Has Fallen director Antoine Fuqua told The Playlist that the film version of the hit TV action series "24" is dead.

The series 24 followed a day in the life of counter terrorist hero on the run Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland).

Though never officially green lit, the film had a script in which Mark Bomback ("The Wolverine" "Shadow Divers") had tweaked from Billy Ray's initial script that was reportedly going to be the first in a possible film trilogy.

Fuqua was at the front of the line to direct the movie, which was put on indefinite hold a year ago.

"Yeah, that's not happening. I don't think it's gonna happen at all, definitely not with me. I met with Kiefer [Sutherland], Fox wanted to do it, it was a matter of his schedule before he went off to do his new show [Touch]."

At the time there were budget concerns causing issues in the negotiations between Fox and Sutherland. Fuqua adds that:

"I don't think he [Sutherland] was able to get a proper agreement with Fox. The time just passed, and I went off to go to what I was doing."

Fuqua's next pic is the boxing film "Southpaw" which hopes to begin production at the end of the Summer.
