A "Good Times" Film In The Works

Sony Pictures has plans for a family comedy feature film based on the 1974-1979 sitcom "Good Times" says Deadline.

The original sitcom focused on working-class couple James and Florida Evans (John Amos and Esther Rolle) as they raised three kids while struggling during hard financial times, unemployment and keeping their kids away from temptations that came with living in a Chicago housing project.

The show made Jimmie J.J. Walker a star on his catchphrase "Dyno-Mite!"

The film version will shift the setting to an even earlier time - the 1960s - which allows exploration of the rich and politically charged period.

Phil Johnston ("Wreck-It Ralph," "Cedar Rapids") has been set to write the script.

Eli Bush and Scott Rudin  will produce.
