IMAX and Universal Pictures have announced that the action sequel "Fast & Furious 6" will be digitally re-mastered into the immersive IMAX format and released in select theatres internationally starting May 22nd.

Paul Walker, Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson are set to return as Brian O’Conner, Dominic Toretto and Agent Luke Hobbs respectively. In the pic--they will take on Luke Evans as a rival heist gang leader. Michelle Rodriguez is set to reprise her role as Letty Ortiz. There was unconfirmed noise that David Tennant was in talks for a small role

MMA fighter-turned-actress Gina Carano will play a member of Johnson’s team.

The same behind-the-scenes team from "Fast Five" are all back for this entry as well led by director Justin Lin.

Meanwhile, Universal is reportedly not only prepping a seventh installment, but they are also keen on expanding The Fast and the Furious film series with a possible spin-off focusing on Johnson's Hobbs character.

Johnson tells Empire that the plan is to release the spin-off first: "That's the goal. We continue to build that character and have him take shape. But yes, can't wait."

It has been reported that Jason Statham will play the villain in "Fast and Furious 7".
