Lloyd-Hughes Is Married To "Madame Bovary"

British actor Henry Lloyd-Hughes has nabbed the male lead in the new adaptation of Gustave Flaubert's classic 1856 novel "Madame Bovary" says Deadline.

Mia Wasikowska will play Emma Bovary, the beautiful wife of a small-town doctor Charles (Lloyd-Hughes) who she married to escape her father's pig farm. She constantly tries to climb the social ladder by engaging in extra-marital affairs.

Paul Giamatti is set to play Monsieur Homais, the town apothecary who is a close confidant of her husband Charles.  Ezra Miller will play Bovary's love interest Leon. Rhys Ifans ("The Amazing Spider-Man") plays Monsieur Lheureuse, a manipulative merchant.

The film is a faithful period piece but is said to emphasize the more youthful and contemporary themes.

Sophie Barthes ("Cold Souls") will direct from a screenplay by Rose Barreneche.

Joe Neurauter and Felipe Marino will produce the film.
