Highlander Remake Gets A New Director

Cedric Nicolas-Troyan is set to make his feature directorial debut on the long gestating remake of the cult classic Highlander says Deadline.

Director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo left at the end of 2012 after more than a year of work on the project.  Justin Lin was originally due to direct the remake,

Ryan Reynolds was set to star but is no longer involved

In "Highlander", after centuries of dueling to survive against others like him, Connor MacLeod, an immortal Scottish swordsman must confront the last of his kind, a murderously brutal barbarian, who lusts for the fabled Prize

"Iron Man" scribes, Art Marcum and Matt Holloway penned the script which goes back to the original film franchise roots. Melissa Rosenberg reportedly gave the script a polish-- with the latest draft by Noah Oppenheim.

Nicolas-Troyan was a second unit director on "Snow White And The Huntsman" and "Maleficent".  and is also said to be quite knowledgeable of the franchise and its mythology, especially the TV spin-off.  The goal is to deliver a "modern, visceral take" on the iconic characters of the franchise. He will supervise a script polish ahead of a production start next year.

Neal Moritz and Peter Davis are producing the update.
