X-Men: Days of Future Past Tidbits And Beyond

Both director Bryan Singer and producer Lauren Shuler Donner talked with Empire Magazine recently for their upcoming issue X-Men: Days of Future Past at Fox . In doing so, they answer some questions about the sequel and the future of the film series.

The latest sequel is based on a -2 issue story arc in the 'X-Men' comics published in 1981. Kinberg (Sherlock Holmes) is on board to pen the screenplay which will include New Mutants. Magneto and his relationship with Charles X. Xavier will be front and center as well.

Most of “X-Men: First Class” cast will reprise their roles, including James McAvoy (Professor X), Michael Fassbender (Magneto) Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), and Nicholas Hoult (Beast). Lucas Till (Alex “Havoc” Summers) Rose Byrne (Moira MacTaggert) recently confirmed that she is NOT in this film...

The original trilogy stars Sir Ian McKellen Sir Patrick Stewart and Hugh Jackman are poised to return again as well. Ellen Page (Kitty Pride) and Shawn Ashmore (Iceman) Halle Berry (Storm). It seems Alan Cumming.(Nightcrawler) will not return. James Marsden has confirmed that he will NOT return as Cyclops. Anna Paquin's Rogue did a few days work but ultimately got edited out of the movie

The teams will join forces to battle the Sentinels--mutant-hunting robots--created by Bolivar Trask (Peter Dinklage).

The next chapter in the film series--the recently announced "X-Men: Apocalypsewill hit theaters on May 27, 2016

Singer says "What happens in [Days] brings about what'll happen in that movie [Apocalypse]."

Singer nixes the rumor of a 'Future Past' credits stinger teasing "Apocalypse," that suggests the villain mutant has alien origins.

Singer says: "That's not the case, and neither will that particular thing be in the film. People were concerned we were making Apocalypse an alien. It's odd. I don't know where that came from."

Talking about the character of Apocalypse, Singer says: "One thing that interests me is the notion of ancient mutants. What would people thousands of years ago, without the benefit of science, think mutants were? And more importantly, what would mutants thousands of years ago think they were? Gods? Titans? Angels? Demons? And if such mutants did exist thousands of years ago, what became of them? Did one survive?"

Though he's not even signed to direct it yet, he's up for doing it: "I’m co-writing the story and I’m producing it, and I’m negotiating to direct. We’re in the process. We’re trying to figure it out, schedules. My desire would be to direct it."

Another question being asked has to do with Wolverine's claws. Left with only bone claws at the end of "The Wolverine," many are wondering why Logan's Adamantium claws are part of  the future-set scenes of "Days of Future Past" and if the film will explain it.

Not confirming anything, Singer does suggest Magneto could reconstitute the adamantium claws because the pair now have a different relationship in this film.

Finally he addresses Paquin's Rogue and her sequence being cut from the film. Singer says despite the cut of that scene, it "does not mean that we won't see her in the film" and he wants to ensure that scene makes it to the DVD/Blu-ray release.

Post-production on the sequel continues "X-Men: Days Of Future Past" hits screens May 23rd 2014.

Meantime Donner told the mag:

"I'm dying to do a Gambit movie with Channing Tatum. That doesn't have to be a great big movie. It's a thief in New Orleans, it's a whole different story. He's on board, and I have to get the studio on board. How can anyone resist Channing? He's such a sweetheart."

Tatum has said that he would love to play the role.

Taylor Kitsch played Gambit in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine".
