X-Men: Apocalypse: The Return Of Nightcrawler & Gambit?

Director Bryan Singer recently told Mexican site CinePremiere, that he wants to have two previously seen mutants return for the upcoming "X-Men: Apocalypse"--Nightcrawler and Gambit.

Singer says (translated):

"I'm considering Gambit and potentially a young Nightcrawler for 'Apocalypse'. I was going to have Nightcrawler [in X-Men: Days of Future Past] and even wrote a scene, but I felt that we were forcing too many mutants into the story."

Alan Cumming played Nightcrawler in "X2: X-Men United," but since 'Apocalypse' is set in the 1980s the role will no doubt be recast.

Gambit on the other hand is a bit more complicated. Friday Night Lights and "John Carter" star Taylor Kitsch played the character in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" which was set in 1981. Logically, Kitsch could play the role again since the character will be about the same age. The actor has also previously expressed interest in returning, however film series producer Lauren Shuler Donner has suggested recasting the part with Channing Tatum who in turn has expressed a desire to play the part.

X2: X-Men United" and "Superman Returns" screenwriters Mike Dougherty and Dan Harris as well as Simon Kinberg are writing the script for "Apocalypse" .

The younger actors introduced in "First Class" James McAvoy (Professor X), Michael Fassbender (Magneto) Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), and Nicholas Hoult (Beast). Lucas Till (Alex “Havoc” Summers), etc. are contracted for three films and are locked in to return.

Because the film is a direct sequel to "Days of Future Past" it will focus strictly on the younger cast as they take on the comic's greatest villain Apocalypse.

The film will hit theaters on May 27, 2016 opposite Alice in Wonderland 2
