Future Undecided For "The Amazing Spider-Man"

Back in April, it was it was announced that screenwriting duo Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci had decided to professionally separate.

Each one has now begun focusing on separate franchises, Orci sticking with "Trek" he may even direct Star Trek 3.

Kurtzman, who co-penned the script for  Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is sticking with the Spidey film series and is attached to direct the spin-off villain film "Venom".

While not confirmed, it was thought that Orci would not be back to help script The Amazing Spider-Man 3.

In a recent interview with IGN UK, Orci says he isn't sure what will happen yet. Sony Pictures hasn't said anything to him about their plans for the future of the character:

"I don't know what their plans are for that franchise. I don't ever want to say never, but we have to figure out what their scheduling is in terms of when they want each movie. I've read probably as much as anyone else. There's a love for the The Sinister Six, the idea of Venom - there's an idea of Spider-Man's going to be one of these characters that's part of our business. He's such a popular character. Spider-Man's not going to go away any time soon. When it all happens and how and all that has yet to be determined."

Though it made an impressive $700 million at the global box-office that's well below its box office goal--mediocre reviews (my review) and under performance for "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" have the studio rethinking their strategy for the franchise's future.

 Recent chatter suggested that "Amazing 3" may be pushed back to a 2017 release.
