Roxwell Films has optioned the rights to produce a film adaptation of author Ed Sanders' 1971 book "The Family" says Deadline.

The tome traces the life of Charles Manson leading up to the brutal 1969 Sharon Tate-Jay Sebring murders by his cult members. It also explores the psychology of the young women who followed him.

Guinevere Turner, who wrote the film adaptation of author Bret Easton Ellis' "American Psycho," is penning the adapted script here as well.

The news comes as a TV series exploring the same subject, "Aquarius," is set premiere mid-season. That project stars "Game of Thrones" actor Gethin Anthony as Manson.
