Who Will Wear The Spidey Suit?

Now that the "Spider-Man" deal has gone public we can expect to see the webhead start appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as soon as Sony Pictures and Marvel figure out the timing.

Which incarnation will be on the screen?

Variety reports that despite the fact that the press release on Monday night mentions original Spider-Man Peter Parker by name, the suits are still trying to decide whether to stick with him or use a different version of the character such as the more recent 13-year-old, half black, half Hispanic Miles Morales who became Spider-Man in the "Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man" storyline.

What is certain though is the character will go back to high school in the next films according to sources for the trade. Unlike the previous films, the plan is also to spend more time in the setting and explore his relationships with other students.

Sources add that  Teen Wolf series co-star and NJ native Dylan O'Brien and  Fury co-star Logan Lerman, both currently twenty-three years old, are under consideration for the part but no-one has been approached yet.

Big fan of O'Brien's work--his quick wit and timing would be perfect....

Lerman was up for the role in 2010 prior to Andrew Garfield getting the gig. At the time he stated: “There have been a few discussions, it’s definitely something I’m looking into. [He's] one of my favorite characters ever and I’m a huge fan of the series. I’d love to have more conversations about it. I’m definitely very interested in it.”

I have liked Lerman's work dating all the way back to the short-lived TV series Jack & Bobby

Still bummed that Garfield got the heave ho though....

A director is being sought for the standalone film and getting them locked down will reportedly happen before they cast a new Spider-Man.

Marvel's Kevin Feige and exiting Sony chief Amy Pascal  are set as producers

Sony will then release the next chapter of the stand alone film series on July 28th 2017
