The latest: WGA, studios mum on Friday talks and the latest in product placement....
WGA leaders and top studio brass had a lengthy meeting on Friday that was described as having gone "OK," in spite of rumors that rising frustration on the part of the CEOs threatened to derail the informal talks that began two weeks ago...
Variety's Cynthia Littleton ia Scribe Vibe:
As if their food wasn't enough of an insult, now Taco Bell has weighed in with a truly tasteless marketing stunt tied to the WGA strike.
Fast-food chain is offering striking scribes the chance to win a whopping $260 in free Taco Bell grub in exchange for writing witticisms for its taco sauce packages. Chain sez it will pick up to 10 "wisdoms" to be printed on sauce packages this fall.
“The writer’s strike is now in its second month, and Taco Bell wanted to show its support for the thousands of creative minds itching to press pen to paper, or in our case, Border Sauce packets,” said David Ovens, chief marketing officer for Taco Bell.
Could they be any more crass? All the more reason to support your favorite local Mexican eatery, for real carne asada and such. (If you're in the Pico/La Brea area, try CJ's Cafe on Pico, just west of Hauser. They have a veggie burrito to die for.)
A crass contest is the least of Taco Bell's problems with this idea, if the walkout is resolved soon then there reason for the whole campaign goes away...Love the photo though...
Stay Tuned...
