John Malkovich, Scott Glenn and Dylan Walsh have joined the cast of the horse-racing drama “Secretariat,” says The Hollywood Reporter.
The story deals with the relationship between the 1973 Triple Crown-winner Secretariat and his owner, Penny Chenery (Diane Lane), a housewife who knew little about horse racing when she took over her ailing father's Virginia horse farm.
Malkovich is Lucien Laurin , the former jockey who became Secretariat's charismatic trainer. Walsh plays Lane's husband, a successful but demanding attorney. Glenn plays a southern-bred aristocrat who loses the horse in a coin toss.
Randall Wallace directs the drama from a script by Mike Rich.
Mark Ciardi and Gordon Gray are producing.
Filming kicks off this week in Louisiana and Kentucky.
