Channing Tatum is officially signed to star in and produce the solo film featuring X-Men's mutant Gambit says Deadline.
Marvel writer Chris Claremont co-created the character back in 1990 and has penned a treatment upon which Robocop remake Joshua Zetumer will write the screenplay. Story details are hushed and being kept confidential.
In the comics, Gambit is also known as Remy LeBeau and is able to charge matter with an explosive kinetic energy - causing objects to explode on impact.
Friday Night Lights and "John Carter" star Taylor Kitsch played the character in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine"
The news comes after the "Magic Mike" actor had expressed his desire to play the role and that producer Lauren Shuler Donner was open to the idea. Reid Carolin and Simon Kinberg will also produce.
No word on a release date yet.
It's likely that Tatum is going to play LeBeau in the next chapter in the film series "X-Men: Apocalypse" which opens May 27th 2016.... but that has not been confirmed yet
