X-Men: Apocalypse: Channing Tatum Is Gambit....!!!

We know that Channing Tatum had expressed his desire to play the X-Men's mutant Gambit at some point in the future of the film series and that producer Lauren Shuler Donner was open to the idea.

Now it seems that the "Magic Mike" star will play the character in Bryan Singer's "X-Men: Apocalypse". Out promoting "X-Men Days of Future Past" Donner told Total Film last night that Tatum is all but a lock:

"It is Channing, yes. Well you know he's a rogue, Channing. He's a rascal, just like Remy LeBeau, and he can handle the action, we all know that. He's got a really good heart, because I know him personally, I did a movie with him. So I think he'll be great, he'll be great for Gambit, and he's a southerner too, he's not from New Orleans but he is a southerner and he understands that world, and you know Gambit loves New Orleans."

Friday Night Lights and  "John Carter" star Taylor Kitsch played the character in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine"

"X2: X-Men United" and "Superman Returns" screenwriters Mike Dougherty and Dan Harris as well as Simon Kinberg are writing the script for "Apocalypse" .

The younger actors introduced in "X-Men: First Class" James McAvoy (Professor X), Michael Fassbender (Magneto) Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), and Nicholas Hoult (Beast). Lucas Till (Alex “Havoc” Summers), etc. are contracted for three films and are locked in to return.

Because the film is a direct sequel to "Days of Future Past" it will focus strictly on the younger cast as they take on the comic's greatest villain Apocalypse.

The film will hit theaters on May 27, 2016 opposite Alice in Wonderland 2

Asked about what other X-Men characters they want to tackle next, Donner said: "Deadpool, yes. X-Force is fascinating, we love X-Force as it allows us to be a little grittier."
