Still more rumors are emerging in the wake of the Sony Pictures leak
and the reports about the studio's "Spider-Man" film series.
Latino Review
reports that if the proposed deal between Sony and Marvel takes place, Andrew Garfield would be out as
Peter Parker. Also, expect some those wild spin-off projects being
discussed to be nixed --Marvel reportedly "severely disliked"
those ideas.
Instead the character would be reset, ignoring the previous five
films, and NOT include an origin story. Peter Parker will already
be living his dual life as a student and Spidey-- his
love life would only be a sub-plot and not the major focus as chronicled in the
previous movies.
Plans to include the character in "Captain America: Civil War" is "still a distinct possibility," but isn't happening for now with the script for that film said to already be locked down.
Garfield's
removal is said to be an issue for Sony's co-chairman Amy Pascal, but in the wake of
the leak her position seems to have been weakened.
I hope suits at both studios come to some sort of agreement so that the proposed hero team-up can take place take place down the road at some point--but I hate the idea of Garfield being canned--I think his portrayal is spot on and so much better than Tobey Maguire's was in the first three Sam Raimi films...
A "Spidey Summit" is planned for next month to decide the future of the franchise.
