As the weekend's only new wide release Resident Evil: Afterlife takes the top box office spot....While 2 battle for #2

Sony Screen Gems' sci-fi fright fest "Resident Evil: Afterlife" managed to scare up an impressive weekend opening, ringing up $27.7 million.

"Takers" tied for No.2 with "The American" on Friday, but ended up taking the No. 2 spot on the weekend with $6.1 million. George Clooney's "The American" walked away with $5.9 million.

Robert Rodriguez's "Machete" rung up $4.2 million for the third spot, and the Drew Barrymore-starrer "Going the Distance" rounded out the weekend's top 5 with $3.8 million...
