Warner Bros Exec Talks "Jupiter Ascending" Release Push

The sudden decision to delay Lana and Andy Wachowski's sci-fi thriller Jupiter Ascending by seven months--a mere 6 weeks from its release date took many by surprise.

Warner Bros planned to release the film on July 18th, a highly profitable time of year which they used for two of the films in Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy Now though, the film has been pushed all the way back to February 6th 2015.

The studio's president of domestic distribution Dan Fellman is sticking with the studio's official story, saying the move is due to the film's unfinished visual effects. Earlier this year the studio decided to move forward with the film in July despite post-production woes.

Fellman tells The Los Angeles Times:

"We've been trying like hell to get this finished. But there are over 2,000 visual effects shots in the movie, and it's just not gonna happen in time. [We had] been concerned about the production schedule, but we thought we could make it. We got down to the wire and we just had to make a decision. It doesn't matter what anybody says. Nobody has seen the movie, so everybody is speculating. People said bad things about World War Z when that got pushed, and look how that turned out."

Speculation remains rife. Trailers for the $150 million budget movie got mixed reaction online, and early audience surveys have reportedly suggested that the film is tracking along the lines of "Edge Of Tomorrow" which opens this weekend had a soft open overseas despite getting strong reviews.

The plot is said to involve higher forms of life on other planets watching us. These beings have some human and animal DNA in them.

The soon to be Mrs. Ashton Kutcher--Mila Kunis will play a Russian immigrant and toilet cleaner who unknowingly carries "the same perfect genetic makeup as the Queen of the Universe and is therefore a threat to her otherwise immortal rule." A bounty hunter (Channing Tatum) is dispatched to kill her, but they fall in love.

Sean Bean will play a roguish character named Stinger. Eddie Redmayne Tuppence Middleton Aussie actor Kick Gurry and Douglas Booth also star. South Korean actress Doona Bae's role is said to be "very small" in the pic  Industry helmer Terry Gilliam has agreed to act for a key cameo in the pic. No details have emerged on whom Redmayne, Booth, and Middleton will play. Middleton and Bean worked before on Cleanskin with the Wachowskis.
