-Filmmaker Kevin Smith has confirmed to Bleeding Cool that he plans on tweaking his new horror picture "Red State" before he goes on his rolling roadshow tour with it starting in March. The film itself received mixed reviews at its debut at Sundance, one common criticism being the length of a sermon by Michael Parks' character than runs a full twenty minutes. That will likely be one of the things subject to some trimming. Here's Smith: "The movie that I showed the cast and crew screening at wrap, two days after we wrapped, I showed them the whole movie, that’s the movie I pretty much showed at Sundance with end credits attached to it… I loved the movie, we knew what we were doing in terms of editing it, it was a beautiful running time and stuff… and then we go to Sundance and I sit in the back and for the first time I get to watch it with 1200 people who have no involvement with the movie, no involvement with me…So I’m sitting there going “Okay, there’s something I thought would work, didn’t play with the audience”, “Something I thought would get a nice reaction just kinda laid there”, Boy, that played way bigger than I ever thought it would, maybe we should shape something around there” and just found some time to take out… if I had to guess I’m saying five to ten minutes somewhere in there. And John [Gordon, producer] fought me on it. John was just like ”Why bother dude, we’re our own bosses, nobody’s telling you to take it out”, like back in the old days Harvey would be “I love it! Take ten minutes out,” no direction at all, just take the time out, so John’s like “We don’t have to do that now, we don’t have to really cut the movie at all” and I said “Yeah, but I’m a filmmaker first and foremost, dude, and I want the movie to play as gangbusters as possible” and if the length of Parks’ speech is making anybody remotely go “Maybe that speech is a little long”… I want them to love Parks as much as I do, so for me, right, I’m an editor, you kill your babies every step of the way as an editor"

Way To Go Mate!

The very familiar thriller The Roommate wins the Super Bowl XLV weekend at the box office--proving that just because Executive Producer James Cameron helped 3-D pic Sanctum along doesn't mean people will be impressed Let alone go see it

Pamela McClintock of THR:

Screen Gems' thriller The Roommate topped the Super Bowl weekend box office thanks to young females, grossing an estimated $15.3 million from 2,534 theaters to easily best Universal's Australian adventure-actioner Sanctum 3D.

Despite the extra bump from higher-priced 3D tickets and James Cameron's involvement, Sanctum couldn't crack the $10 million mark in its debut, although it still met Universal's expectations.

Sanctum, executive produced by Cameron, opened to an estimated $9.2 million from 2,787 theaters, of which more than 2,000 were 3D runs. Overseas, Sanctum grossed an estimated $3.1 million as it debuted in Australia and the U.K., a relatively soft showing.

Universal and Relativity Media paid $12 million for distribution rights to the Sanctum.

A large part of Roommate's strength was its younger fan base. Of the audience, 61% of those buying tickets were under the age of 21.

In comparison, 65% of those buying tickets to Sanctum were over the age of 30. Both films skewed female -- 65% for Roommate, and 53% for Sanctum.

Overall, the domestic box office was once again down from last year, this time by more than 20%. Super Bowl weekend is always hard for Hollywood, with theater traffic dropping substantially on Sunday.

The Roommate' outswims 'Sanctum' to top weekend with $15.6 mil

Next Up: Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston learn to Just Go With It; Channing Tatum and Jamie Bell are on a quest to find The Eagle; An all star voice cast puts a new twist on a classic tale in the animated 3-D pic Gnomeo & Juliet; Bieber Fever takes hold with Never Say Never

Street Talking

Talking with The L.A. Times during a promo push for Friday's release of The Eagle star Channing Tatum indicates that the filmmakers behind the 21 Jump Street film want original TV Series star Johnny Depp for a cameo.

"I really hope he does it. It would mean the world to us and I think everyone wants to see him do it... and he's enough of a madman to do it"

Tatum said the film will differ from the original's show's premise of young cops going undercover in high school or college.

"This is more like ''Back to the Future', you get to go back and relive your high-school life" he says, mixing moments of fantasy with outrageous comedy.

"I've never read a script that I'm like, 'How are they letting us do this?'. I don't even mean the censoring board. I'm like, 'No, I can't believe they're going to put this in a movie.' It's freaking ridiculous" he says.

The tone affects the characters that he and star Jonah Hill will play: "It's a total reversal. Jonah's the cool one and I'm the loser." The film sees Tatum and Hill taking on a new drug that has run rampant at a high school, and cutting it off at the source.

Shooting on the project kicks off this spring under the helm of Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller will call action from Michael Bacall'/Hill's screenplay The pic is set to hit theaters in March 16, 2012.

Still not quite sure how this one's gonna work--Might it be too over the top...?

Strange Behavior

Relativity Media is finally moving forward on its long-delayed so Bryan Bertino's low-budget horror flick "The Strangers" reports Bloody Disgusting.

The original pic starred Scott Speedman and Liv Tyler  as a young couple terrorized by three masked assailants who break into the remote summer home in which they are staying and cut off all means of escape.

Made for just $9 million, the film had a number of release delays before getting its theatrical release in May 2008 where it went on to gross $82 million worldwide.

In the sequel, the three mysterious figures stalk a family of four that is forced to live in an abandoned trailer after being evicted from their home due to the bad economy.

Laurent Briet will direct The Strangers Part 2 from Bertino's script

An April start date is eyed although,is not yet for sure.

The sequel has been around for almost two years and could just never get going.

What A Backward Planet This Must Be

Yesterday came news that the character of Lois Lane would NOT show up in Zack Snyder's Superman: Man of Steel, and that Alice EveDiane Kruger and Rosamund Pike are in contention to play an undisclosed female character Latino Review says they know the character's name

According to a source, the trio are up for the role of a Kryptonian villain Ursa

The character is best known as portrayed by British actress Sarah Douglas in her memorable turn as General Zod (Terence Stamp)'s right hand woman in Superman II .

Four months ago Snyder denied reports that Zod was the film's bad guy appearing in the film.

You CAN"T have Ursa without Zod can you!!??

And oh by the way LR says Lois Lane will be in the film after all...Jeebus! Here we go with the one day it's true the next day it's not stuff...

All Powerful Jimmy

James Franco continues to be the industry go-to-guy when it needs to fill a role.

The Oscar nominee and co-host is now being courted to star in  Oz: The Great and Powerful says THR after Johnny Depp officially passes on the film. Robert Downey Jr declined the role as well

The Wizard of Oz. prequel like tale follows a young illusionist forced to flee a traveling circus. His hot air balloon is swept up by a tornado to the land of Oz, which is run by two magical wicked witches. He of course goes on to become the Wizard.

Mitchell Kapner wrote the script from which Sam Raimi will direct.

Joe Roth will produce the flick

Franco and Raimi worked on the first 3 Spider-Man Films and it would make sense for this to work If the very busy Jimmy can find the time

Standing Firm

Author Stephen King told Entertainment Weekly that he "didn’t know anything about the remake until I read about it on the Internet" referring to the recent news of a film adaptation of his classic 1978 novel The Stand

King says that he believes "You absolutely can’t make it as a two-hour movie. If it was a trilogy of films…maybe."

He implies that he certainly doesn't get any financial rewards from films based on his books - "This time people will probably say, “The miniseries was lots better” but …historically speaking, movie studios blow the budget on things like this, so maybe it’ll be fun to look at. The dough certainly isn’t going to me, although if it is a trilogy, and if it makes a lot of money, I might be able to buy a chicken dinner at Popeyes"

King believes no one will be able to top  Gary Sinise as Stuart Redman. in the six-hour mini-series adaptation in 1994 though his runner-up pick would be Jake Gyllenhaal for the role of Stu.

He would like to see  Billy Bob Thornton in the film version as well

Geez! No one bothered to pick up the phone and at least tell him about film. Yikes!

Having thought about this one for a few days now....

I agree with the prolific author a 2 hour movie will not cut it--even the mini left out some stuff or mushed things together to accommodate the format....

Excited By Bond

Ralph Fiennes is rumored to be in talks for a role in Bond 23 reports The Daily Mail.

Fiennes seems "excited by the revolutionary approach of the upcoming film… it’s the first of a new generation of Bond films, and the ideas [Director] Sam Mendes has push the film into darker territory where the characters are modern, mature and challenging"

The source also adds that the part is quite dark and "one of extreme complexity and only an actor of great ability and dexterity can take it on.”--as such is apparently NOT the same part that is being offered to Javier Bardem

Daniel Craig will reprise his role as 007 and Dame Judi Dench is back as Bond Boss M

The sequel boasts a screenplay by Peter Morgan

The casting on this Bond gets more and more fascinating with each post. Stay Tuned to see if the Fiennes rumor pans out

Filming is currently scheduled to kick off in the Fall for a release in November next year.

Dark Lady

Eva Green is in talks to join the cast of Tim Burton's "Dark Shadows" says Variety.

Based on the cult TV Series the spooky soap-opera featured gothic horror staples like vampires, ghosts and zombies.

Johnny Depp is attached to play Barnabas Collins, the vampire patriarch of the series.

Green would portray the temptress Angelique, a role played  Lara Parker in the original.

Bella Heathcote also stars a waitress who resembles Collins' long-lost love. Jackie Earle Haley is talks to join the film too says Deadline and Variety

Seth Grahame-Smith has penned the script while Depp, Graham King, Richard Zanuck, Christi Dembrowski and David Kennedy are producing.

Shooting kicks off this Spring for a 2012 release.

Cop Co-Opted

Jason Segel will go back to 80's in the comedy "Undercover Cop" says Risky Business Blog

Inspired by a true story, Segel would play a former cop that infiltrated the New Jersey criminal underworld during the era.

Jason A. Micallef (Butter) will write the screenplay.  Steven Zaillian will produce the pic. Garrett Basch, who brought the concept to the studio suits, will serve as executive producer.

No production schedule has been set

Wiches Brew

Rob Zombie will soon begin production on The Lords of Salem directing from his own script says The Hollywood Reporter.

Set in modern day Salem, the story follow a "DJ in Salem who unleashes a horde of demonic minions (300-year old coven of witches) after she plays a cursed record.", according to Dread Central.

Jason Blum, Steven Schneider and Oren Peli will produce.

Things get going on the flick this spring.

The premise is Ok but I'm not so keen on Zombie any more after his take on  Halloween and  Halloween II

Lords is the third title from the Haunted Movies banner, the first being James Wan's "Insidious" opening April 1st while the second, Barry Levinson’s “The Bay"

Argo Hold

Ben Affleck is in talks to direct the Iran hostage crisis pic "Argo" says The Hollywood Reporter.

Based on Joshuah Bearman's 2007 Wired magazine article, the wry political thriller would be centered on what happened during the occupation of the American embassy by Iranians in 1979, when a rescue effort was mounted by the  CIA and the Canadian government to extract six U.S. diplomats.

The CIA used a disguise expert and concocted a scenario that involved the six being a Hollywood crew scouting a sci-fi movie titled "Argo:. Using those disguises, and with the help of artwork by legendary comics creator Jack Kirby, they were able to flee the country.

Chris Terrio wrote the screenplay

Should Ben take on the pic it would be quite a change for him after "Gone Baby Gone" and "The Town

David Klawans, George Clooney and Grant Heslov will produce the pic

If You Need A Friend Find Someone Else

Zack Snyder's Superman: Man of Steel is trying something different...

You can forget all of those Lois Lane casting rumors making the rounds this week...

Alice EveDiane Kruger and Rosamund Pike are the three actresses in contention for the female lead in the film reports Variety.

The character's identity hasn't been revealed as yet, it has been confirmed that it will NOT be Lois Lane. The studio doesn't want a name that could overshadow leading man Henry Cavill. so it's bye bye Olivia Wilde and Rachel McAdams as Lois.

The studio is also in search of its villain, but which character will be used (ie. Lex Luthor, General Zod, Brainiac, Darkseid) is not yet known

Zack Snyder directs from a script by David Goyer with Christopher Nolan producing.

Believe it ot not I'm not as bothered by the no Lois thing as you might think I would be since Goyer is using  Geoff Johns work on the Secret Origins storyline as inspiration-- in theory you could make the absence of Lois work

Production will start this summer with a December 2012 release date.

Make Room For Football

The 2 new films greeting moviegoers this weekend will be competing with  Super Bowl XLV festivities Guess who wins that showdown....

Minka Kelly welcomes her wild new college Roommate (reviews) Leighton Meester; And Executive Producer James Cameron helps Director Alister Grierson lead you down the depths of the unknown in (the 3-D flick) Sanctum (reviews)

Pamela McClintock of THR

Screen Gems' new thriller The Roommate, starring Minka Kelly and Leighton Meester, should draw enough females to win the Super Bowl weekend box-office crown.

Universal's underwater cave adventure-thriller Sanctum 3D, exec produced by James Cameron, isn't looking as strong. The R-rated Australian film is underwhelming in tracking and will have to compete with Sunday's game for males.

There's also the weather. Distributors hope the Midwest and parts of the Northeast will have recovered enough from this week's crippling Groundhog Blizzard to allow safe access to the multiplex.

But neither Mother Nature nor the Super Bowl can be blamed for what's expected to be another tepid frame at the domestic box office.

The Roommate is expected to open in the low to mid-teens, compared with a $30.5 million opening a year ago for Screen Gems' romantic drama Dear John, starring Amanda Seyfried and Channing Tatum (distributors have long used Super Bowl weekend to bow female-skewing fare).

Universal is predicting a $6 million to $8 million opening for Sanctum, although rival distributors say it should do a bit better. Universal and Relativity Media picked up distribution rights for $12 million, meaning the film needs to ultimately gross $25 million-$30 million.

Among holdovers, Paramount's No Strings Attached should stay high in the mix in its third weekend. The film's gross through Wednesday was $42.4 million. That's true too for the Weinstein Co.'s The King's Speech, which has grossed $74.9 million domestically.

King's Speech and other Oscar front-runners, including Paramount and Skydance Prods.' True Grit and Fox Searchlight's Black Swan, continue their expansion overseas. Speech launches in France, True Grit bows in Mexico and New Zealand, and Swan opens in 12 new markets, including Brazil and Holland.

In the U.S., Sony Pictures Classics expands Mike Leigh's Another Year, nominated for an Oscar for best original screenplay, into a total of 236 theaters.

Sanctum goes out in 2,789 theaters, including more than 2,000 3D runs and 178 Imax theaters. Universal also is opening Sanctum day and date in Australia, New Zealand and the U.K. The film opens in Japan on April 22...

Sidekick Highjjinx

While appearing on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" Samuel L. Jackson says that his alter ego Nick Fury will be making cameo appearances in "Thor" and Captain America: The First Avenger

He'll also have a female sidekick for The Avengers.

Heat Vision says that  V bad but lovely Morena Baccarin  Jessica Lucas Cobie Smulders and Mary Elizabeth Winstead will be testing big Sam on Friday for the part.

Baccarin worked before with helmer Joss Whedon on Serenity and its TV series prequel  Firefly; I would suppose that she's got the edge here.

Meanwhile, Coming Soon has scans of photos contained within the Empire article about "Captain America: The First Avenger"

We get our first look at footage from Cap this weekend with its Super Bowl XLV commercial!!

And finally Marvel.com offers up the first poster for "Captain America" out 7/22/11

RIP Maria Schneider (1952–2011)

French actress French actress Maria Schneider, who played Marlon Brando’s lover in Bernardo Bertolucci's infamous pic Last Tango in Paris, has died in Paris after a long illness reports  She was just 58 years old.

The Daughter of late French actor Daniel Gélin and model Marie-Christine Schneider, she became internationally famous at just 20 years old when she starred alongside then 48-year-old Brando in 1972 The film is about a French girl who meets an older American man (Brando) for casual sex in a Paris apartment.

The film was banned in many countries for being too graphic, and director Bertolucci  told ANSA that he wished he could have apologised to Schneider for putting her through those scenes.

Other roles include Franco Zeffirelli’s 1992 adaptation of "Jane Eyre", Jacques Rivette's "Merry-Go-Round," Dominique Goult's "Haine," Nouchka van Brakel's " A Woman Like Eve ," Cyril Collard's "Savage Nights ", Josiane Balasko’s "Cliente", and Michelangelo Antonioni's "The Passenger" alongside Jack Nicholson.

Grandslam Of Scares?

Word is that Scream 4 is undergoing some reshoots. Should we be worried?

Director Wes Craven told Entertainment Weekly that the additional photography is mot reshoots:

"We had a couple test screenings and we saw two scenes where they had moments you could add to and we just saw a spectacular opportunity.[Executive Producer] Bob [Weinstein] just said to me basically, ‘You go to your dark side and I’ll give you the money!’ [Laughs] The two scenes were really good, but we saw how they could be spectacular, so we thought, let’s just go for it. They were key moments of the script, so we just decided to go back and go for the grand slam on them.

Craven flatly denies chatter that the ending is being changed, saying "No, the ending is totally kick-ass. We’re not gonna touch that. [The scenes being added are] one scene that’s kind of in the late beginning and one scene that’s a little bit later."

Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Britt Robertson, Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere, Rory Culkin, Nico Tortorella, Mary McDonnell, Alison Brie, Anthony Anderson, Aimee Teegarden, and Marielle Jaffe star along with confirmed cameos by Anna Paquin, Kristen Bell, Shenae Grimes, and Lucy Hale.

Written by film series mastermind Kevin Williamson the film hits theaters on April 15th.

Back To Rescue Jack

Steven Zaillian who most recently scripted David Fincher's American adaptation of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” is in talks to rewrite the script for the Jack Ryan reboot according to THR

Chris Pine will star as the budding intelligence analyst from the Tom Clancy-created novel series and the four previous film adaptations.

Previously called Moscow, it now seems the reboot is gonna be going by the title "Jack Ryan" for now anyway. Back in September Anthony Peckham (Invictus) was hired to re-write the flick

Jack Bender is directing the film.

This isn't Zaillian's first experience writing Jack Ryan world. He wrote the 1994's Clear and Present Danger, which starred Harrison Ford.

Shooting was to kick off in Budapest in March, then got pushed back to later in the Spring. Now with re-writes, the start date has been pushed back again - potentially up to a month.

Paramount suits can't afford any further delays though with Pine committed to their Star Trek Sequel

Friends Till The End

Director Joe Johnston tells The L.A. Times that James “Bucky” Barnes, sidekick to Captain America will be different in the film Captain America: The First Avenger from that of his comic book roots...

In the comics, he’s like Robin is to Batman, but this is not that at all," Johnston says. "We took some liberties with the relationship between the two guys. In our story, Bucky is already in the service, he’s already joined up and is being sent overseas while Steve is still struggling to get in the army. That’s different than what you may have read in the comics. It adds a nuance to the relationship that pays off later. They’re closer in age, too — they’re virtually the same age."

In the film, Rogers (Chris Evans) and Barnes (Sebastian Stan) grew up almost as brothers. Rogers is too sick to enlist so he volunteers for a dangerous and secret experiment that might make him the first of an army of super-soldiers. That fact changes the dynamics of the friendship from less paternal than in the comics, and Bucky is used far less as comic relief in the film

Part of the reason for the changes was the hiring of Stan  as Bucky, "Sebastian brought something really interesting and slightly on the dark side and really compelling to watch... Sebastian has a dark, slightly quirky side to him — and that’s the case when he’s in character or not — and he brought that to this movie“

The director adds that Stan was originally up for the role of the Captain himself.

You know, he was originally up for the lead, for the Steve Rogers role, but he didn’t have quite the same earnest, I-want-to-fight-for-my-country aura that Chris has for this role. Sebastian has a little bit of the bad boy, he’s a little bit of the James Dean type and that goes somewhat counter to the general perception of Steve Rogers. He wasn’t quite right for Captain America, but I think he’s perfect for Bucky"

Hugo Weaving, Hayley Atwell, and Samuel L. Jackson co star.

Given Bucky's potential story arc should the films continue the changes also make for a stronger narrative down the road

Cap will be released in 2D and 3-D plexes on July 22, 2011.

Talk Of Snow

Part of the rumor mill last week, now Twilight star Kristen Stewart has officially began negotiations to play the female lead in Snow White and the Huntsman according to The Hollywood Reporter.

But the deal's not yet a sure thing the trade saying it "could still fall apart, but both sides want it to happen".

Rupert Sander directs from an Evan Daugherty script
The film also stars Viggo Mortensen and Charlize Theron

Meanwhile a report at The Daily News, talks about Stewart's meeting for the role of Lois Lane in Superman: Man of Steel has been shot down by her peeps

They tell People that "There are a number of fabricated stories circulating. The fact is that she has not met on this film [Superman] nor has she been approached for this film."

Thank goodness this Lois rumor has been nixed....Stewart would be the wrong choice as Lois.

Goldsman Hearts Winter

Writer Akiva Goldsman  will make his feature film directorial debut on the fantasy drama "Winter's Tale" says Deadline.

An adaptation of the 1983 Mark Helprin novel of the same name, follows Peter Lake, an orphaned mechanic who tries to rob a palatial West Side mansion. Has Bond Met His Match?

Current Oscar nominee Javier Bardem talked about the offer for him to appear in Bond 23 with The Los Angeles Times.

Bardem told the paper that he hasn't said yes to director Sam Mendes yet, he wants to read the Peter Morgan script first.

Bardem adds that has met with Mendes though and says it would be a hard role to turn down.

"They're changing the whole thing, the whole dynamic. I'd be playing Bond's nemesis, yes, but it's not that obvious. Everything is more nuanced. It's very intriguing".

Bardem admits "I'm a huge fan of the James Bond Saga. When I was little, I went watching Mr. Connery doing James Bond with my father. Who in the world would think I'd be in one of those movies?"

Drake's Lady

Director David O. Russell was asked by Empire about the film adaptation of the video game  Uncharted: Drake's Fortune like who is up for the female lead role-Elena

"Ah, Elena. I've cultivated her quite a bit and I think I've added a lot of dimension to her so that's all I'm going to say. I love the woman characters and the more robust they are, the more robust the movie."

The interviewer suggested The Fighter actress Amy Adams, Russell responded "Oh I would love that too, I love Amy. I also love Scarlett Johansson; there's a lot of great actors I think might suit. Hopefully, we'll see how it works out with everybody who are being scoped to do that role.'"

Asked what the overall status of the adaptation is right now:

"The game is very cinematic; there's no question about it. That's what I'm working on real hard and I'm writing it as we speak and I'm really excited to make it. I'd love Mark [Wahlberg] to be in it, I'd love  Bob De Niro to be in it; I love the idea of growing them into a cinematic family; I think that's a really cool idea, but... I guess you'll have to wait until you see the script."

Mamma Mia!

The Incredible Bulk

Actor Hugh Jackman tells The L.A. Times that he's getting a lot bigger for Darren Aronofsky's The Wolverine than he got for "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" and is currently training for the superhero flick

"It’s 6,000 calories a day, it’s rough… Right now, I’m at 210 [lbs.]" says Jackman who was told to bulk up by Aronofsky - "Darren said with the last one, ‘Hey you looked great, but you’re so tall that in those long shots you looked kind of like  Clint Eastwood, and that’s not Wolverine.' He said that Wolverine, in the comics, is powerful, stocky, you know, he’s short and thick. So he said, ‘I want you to go there, get bigger.’"

Jackman describes the film itself, that's based on the great mini-series by Frank Miller and Chris Claremont--set primarily in Japan.as "not a sequel, it’s a stand-alone, and I think we’re going to make one that people will describe as the best of the bunch… I’m really, really pumped about it. I feel like all the planets are finally aligned to make a great movie."

He adds, "I remember saying to [producer] Lauren Shuler Donner, “Lauren, I don’t know about you, but I’ve seen this Japanese story, and I think it’s so good. It’s just genius, it’s brilliant.” And we kind of always talked about it from there on. I sort of even wanted to do that in the third X-Men movie at first, but we thought, no, we really need to establish who he is at first, and we did that [with "X-Men Origins: Wolverine"], and now this is sort of the cherry on top, to finally do it and have Darren Aronofsky direct it."

They have a great story to use as a starting point a fine helmer and star-The flick's gotta be good.

"The Wolverine" is scheduled to hit theaters in 2012.

JGL Does DKR!

Some really really good news...

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in talks to reunite with his "Inception" director Christopher Nolan for "The Dark Knight Rises" says Deadline!!

Gordon-Levitt's part isn't specified, the actor has previously been rumored to play the villain The Riddler. JGL will be ready to go when Nolan starts production in May, once he finishes doing Rian Johnson's sci-fi actoner "Looper". He always stays busy though as Live With It and Hesher are also on the way

Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy star along with the expected return of the trilogy's ensemble cast such as Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine

Gettin' very giddy over DKR folks!

Meanwhile, DKR cinematographer Wally Pfister is talking again this time to BDK Reviews ...

He was asked how Nolan can possibly top "The Dark Knight":

I asked the same question. I read the script two weeks ago, and he’s done it. Plain and simple — he’s done it. It’s a phenomenal script. He’s still in the process of cutting it back because it’s a very long script right now, but it’s really phenomenal. And he actually had me go back and wanted me to watch, in IMAX Batman Begins and The Dark Knight again. When I watched those I had read the script for The Dark Knight Rises and was like, ‘dude, it is a perfect trilogy.’ I think that was his intent, to work off those two pictures — and they are very different pictures. And it’s funny, we all had different opinions about which picture we like better.”

Asked about filming the next film in IMAX, he says “Our goal is to shoot as much in IMAX as we can. We’re going to put in on the screen, and put it on the screen big. And I really encourage everyone to see it in IMAX if they can because we’re really going for it this time. In terms of the action, we are all scratching our heads right now trying to figure out how we’re going to do it; how we’re going to do it in the amount of time we’re going to do it in. The opening scene of the movie will blow your mind"

The story follows Civil War veteran John Carter (Taylor Kitsch) who becomes a great hero on Mars

The live-action/computer animation hybrid is Stanton's first non-animated film- "When you've made animated movies your whole life, it was pretty exciting to be outside for a day, let alone for months For as cold and as hot and as hard as it was, which I knew it would be, I was up for it and it was a blast. It was the hardest thing I'll ever have done, but man, it was a great adventure. It was like sailing across the ocean, you know, everything that goes with that."

Mark Strong, Willem Dafoe, Ciarán Hinds, Bryan Cranston, Dominic West, Polly Walker, Thomas Haden Church and Lynn Collins co star

The novel, first published in 1978 and then revised in 1990, tells a story of good vs. evil after a virus wipes out most of the American population. The survivors end up fighting the Antichrist-like Randall Flagg.

There was that six-hour mini-series adaptation in 1994 while Marvel has recently produced an acclaimed Comic Book adaptation.

Crossing Paths

Tyler Perry will star in "I, Alex Cross", a reboot of the franchise based on James Patterson's Alex Cross novel series reports Deadline.

In the book series, Alex Cross is a forensic psychologist who hunts down killers. Morgan Freeman played the role twice in 1997's Kiss the Girls and 2001's "Along Came a Spider".

Perry is best known for writing and directing his own films, this would mark his first role in a film that he didn't write outside of his cameo in J.J. AbramsStar Trek.

Rob Cohen (The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor) will direct the film. Patterson and Kerry Williamson wrote a draft of the script that will be polished by Marc Moss.

Idris Elba ("The Wire," "Rocknrolla")  was originally slated to star in and David Twohy was originally gonna to direct.

What a great casting choice! Perry is one of my heroes in film and I am thrilled by this news Can't wait!!! Soo cool!!

The major disaster in this latest sequel is a suspension bridge collapse.

Bats Cats And Lois

Putting in an appearance at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival helmer Christopher Nolan talks the current status of  The Dark Knight Rises

"We've worked on it a long time - David Goyer and myself. We're about 12 weeks away from shooting. We start in May"  He added that the main draw of doing this third film was about "finishing the story."

The news that  Anne Hathaway's gonna play Selina Kyle made no mention of  her alter ego Catwoman. Nolan didn't confirm whether we'll see Catwoman in the film,

Now cinematographer Wally Pfister told Bleeding Cool that Oscar co-host Hathaway has done a full costume test.

"Yeah.. She's phenomenal. This is something she wanted and wanted to show Chris, 'I'm the one for this job' and she did an incredible job...and she looked phenomenal in the wardrobe [hint, hint]. It's going to be amazing with her."

Pushed however to explain if that costume test was for Catwoman rather Kyle, he said "I'll get fired and I won't even get to shoot the picture! … I can't really, but I definitely want to be around next year."

Meanwhile--Now that Henry Cavill is locked for the lead in  Superman: Man of Steel attention has turned to finding Lois Lane for his Clark Kent.

The casting of Lois is expected to be announced within the next week or two and will be highly contingent upon the actress fitting the window for filming the studio has scheduled.

What's Playing says they've heard seven names on the list. Two of which, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Kristen Bell  are said to be long shots, while the other five actresses were asked to read for the part

Those five include:: Kristen Stewart, Jessica Biel, Rachel McAdams, Dianna Agron and Malin Akerman

Stewart may be out because she has a full plate I hope that's the case...She would make a poor choice. As for Biel and McAdams, they are said to be the leading contenders

My personal pick from the list for Lois would be McAdams for the right amount Spunktitude that's needed Stay Tuned

Captain Cover Boy

Captain America: The First Avenger (Chris Evans) is the cover story of this month's Empire Magazine and  the issue boasts some new details about the production

Marvel.honcho Kevin Feige. says "scripts had been developed that took place half in World War II, half in the modern day and none of those scripts were particularly successful because the costume ended up overshadowing the man. So we finally said, 'If we could make a Captain America movie any way we wanted to make it, how would we make it?' Well, we'd set the entire movie in the past, in that period, with all of the Marvel trimmings. And so we made the fun, kick-ass Captain America movie we wanted to."

Director Joe Johnston: "I've always loved Raiders and the tone that it had. It was period but didn't feel like it was made in the period. It felt like a modern-day film about the period, which is what we're doing on Captain America. It will not feel like a war movie. It's funny where it needs to be and emotional where it needs to be and serious and full of action."

Are these quotes just hype and spin? I hope not

Hugo Weaving, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan and Samuel L. Jackson co star.

Cap will be released in 2D and 3-D plexes on July 22, 2011.
