The film will be based upon a combination of the famous Diary;Albert Hackett and Frances Goodrich's stage play; Mamet's own original take on the material that could reframe the story as a young girl's right of passage.
Frank died at 15 in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, and became an icon of The Holocaust after the post-war publication of the diary that she kept during the two years that her family hid in a secret attic apartment in Amsterdam.
Mamet and Andrew Braunsberg will produce the pic.
The story was adapted on the big screen in 1959 and several TV movies over the past few decades.
I, like most folks, read the Diary in high school and it's stayed with me ever since--I have never seen any adaptation as yet--but I am curious to see how this one develops.
