The Tolkien Trust, New Line Cinema and HarperCollins Publishers. have settled the lawsuit over the "The Lord of the Rings films" filed in February of '08.
The suit from the Trust and HarperCollins concerned plaintiffs' participation interest in the The Lord of the Rings films released between 2001 and 2003.
The parties have agreed to a settlement, though details are remaining confidential. With its resolution, New Line can now proceed unhindered with its proposed film adaptations of Hobbit.
Christopher Tolkien says, “The Trustees regret that legal action was necessary, but are glad that this dispute has been settled on satisfactory terms that will allow the Tolkien Trust properly to pursue its charitable objectives. The Trustees acknowledge that New Line may now proceed with its proposed films of ‘The Hobbit.’
Meantime--Guillermo del Toro left this cryptic post at TheOneRing.net recently:
"In a few days there will be a BIG announcement (big for me, at least) that is not-Hobbit related.BEFORE anyone starts wondering the usual "how does he have time?, Is this detracting form The Hobbit?" etc It is a project that started over 2 years ago, before The Hobbit and will render fruits in the mid-term, not intruding on my Hobbit duties. Rest assured. The key letter is D"
Does the D stand for Deadman? And mean Deadman before Hobbit?
