A few weeks ago former "Breaking Bad" co-star Aaron Paul told AICN, that he's under consideration to join the long proposed adaptation of Stephen King's opus "The Dark Tower" as Eddie Dean, a character introduced in the second book
Sadly though, the film remains stalled.
On stump promoting his new film--the mythic romance Winter's Tale writer/producer Akiva Goldsman, tells Collider:
"It’s not officially back on and we will never let it go – until Stephen takes it away from us. [Laughs]"
Asked if the filmmakers are currently making casting decisions, Goldsman says: "No, but I love reading about it."
Previously the plan was to tell the epic tale over the course of three films bridged by two limited-run TV seasons. Javier Bardem was lined up as the lead when the ambitious project was at Universal Pictures. Following a budget meltdown Warner Bros picked up Goldsman’s script for the first film that Ron Howard would direct--with Russell Crowe rumored to play Roland Deschain. WB passed on the option to make the TV/film adaptation.
King’s Dark Tower novels have a adult edge that, if done faithfully, would no doubt get an R-rating--eliminating a huge chunk of the audience
Watering
down the violence in the stories might guarantee a more
commercial-friendly PG-13 rating, but would surely draw the ire of the
devotees of the books, who would be the films’ core audience.
Goldsman, King and Brian Grazer would produce.
A source for Schmoes Knows
claim that Liam Neeson is interested in taking a major role in the project The powers that be are also rumored to be considering using Netflix to launch the TV element of the adaptation.
