Channing Tatum updated his official Facebook page last night telling fans that he has started working on the Magic Mike 2 script...getting motivated by sitting in front of a bust of Matthew McConaughey who played strip club owner Dallas in the first one.
The original Magic Mike is inspired by Tatum's pre-Hollywood days as a male dancer--The biopic followed a newcomer to the world of exotic dancing (Alex Pettyfer) who is tempted by an older woman (Demi Moore) as well as forging a bond with a mentor to the younger stripper--The titular Magic Mike (Tatum)
The status of the project was up in the air when Tatum spoke with MTV last year at the premiere of "Side Effects," as he expressed some doubts. "I don't know if we can do 'Magic Mike 2' without our general [director Steven Soderbergh]," he said.
"It's hard. It's a hard situation to be in. Soderbergh said he'll produce it, and we're like 'What director is going to want to come on and try to come behind you?' It's hard, but we're going to figure it out. Either he'll do it, or maybe we won't do it."
Looks like Mike 2 is a go...
