Marvel announced in a press release that Hayley Atwell ("Brideshead Revisited," "The Duchess") has been cast to star as Peggy Carter in Joe Johnston’s "The First Avenger: Captain America." In the early Cap comics,Carter fell in love with Captain America (Chris Evans) while they fought together during World War II. The character will be updated for the flick
Emily Blunt was the original top choice for the role but declined the offer. Atwell and Alice Eve were then said to be the top contenders in the running with recent screen tests in the UK being the deciding factor.
