TDKR: Neeson's Ra's Al Ghul Cameo Confirmed!

After denying that he is in the film--the recent production notes for this weekend's "Wrath Of The Titans" confirmed that Liam Neeson's next film would indeed be an appearance in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises" according to Comic Book Movie.

The isn't really a big surprise since Neeson had talked publicly about being on the TDKR set for a few hours to visit the production. But gave no indication one way or another whether he would appear on screen.

Cable network CNN asked Neeson about whether he will appear in the film. He told them "I think so. I have no idea what the story is about. Nothing. Nothing. Seriously, I'm not sure if I'm still in it. It's a cameo – let's put it that way – if it still survives [the cutting room floor].”

Neeson played the villain Ra's Al Ghul in 2005's “Batman Begins" and throughout the production of 'Rises' it was hinted that the character would appear in the film by way of flashback.

Christian Bale Tom Hardy Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt Marion Cotillard Josh Pence, Alon Aboutboul and Nestor Carbonell star along with a return of the trilogy's ensemble cast such as Morgan Freeman Gary Oldman and Michael Caine Cillian Murphy might also be making a cameo

Matthew Modine Tom Conti Joey King Daniel Sunjata Diego Klattenhoff Christopher Judge "CSI: Miami" co-star Adam Rodriguez and Burn Gorman take on secondary roles. Rob Brown and Italian actor Massi Furlan have small roles in the film as well

Nolan called action on the DKR from a screenplay he wrote with bro Jonathan Nolan, from a story by Nolan and David S. Goyer that features Bane (Hardy) and Catwoman (Hathaway) plotting to take down Batman (Bale).

The sequel is set to hit theaters on July 20th, 2012.

Scott Talks Prometheus To Empire Mag

The cover story for an upcoming issue of Empire is all about Ridley Scott's "Prometheus".

The mag's website has offered up a preview of the article:

Scott was asked about the film's potential rating Will it be a PG-13 or an R rated film like the other films in the Alien franchise:

"Right now I don't know where we are. The question is, do you go for the PG-13, or do you go for what it should be, which is R? Financially it makes quite a difference, or the risk makes quite a difference, and yet you also have to apply the question -- if you soften it, will you financially suffer? As opposed to just going for the throat and gambling. Essentially, it's kinda R. The little bastards will still get in anyway, so what's the difference? It's not just about blood, it's about ideas that are very stressful. I'm not an idiot, but I'll do everything I can to get the most aggressive film I can."

It was reported--Yet never really confirmed that Scott shot both an R rated and a PG-13 rated version of the script. One may infer from his answer that there was never two versions of the shooting script.

Moving on...

Scott says that a big reason for him doing the film himself is he finally gets to explore the back story of the Space Jockey from "Alien":

“[I've wanted to revisit the 'Alien' universe for] years! Years, years, years. I always wondered when they did ['Aliens'] 2,3 and 4 why they hadn’t touched upon that, instead of evolving into some other fantastic story. They missed the biggest question of them all: who’s the big guy [the Space Jockey]? And where were they going? And with what? Why that cargo? There’s all kinds of questions.

The article also feature new photos from the film and those can be seen by going over to AVP Galaxy.

Michael Fassbender Charlize Theron Noomi Rapace Idris Elba Rafe Spall, Sean Harris, Logan Marshall-Green Ben Foster and Kate Dickie star. With Emun Elliott Patrick Wilson and Benedict Wong also in the cast as well. Guy Pearce cameos as Peter Weyland CEO of Weyland-Yutani that became the big biz of the Alien franchise

Damon Lindelof worked with director Scott on the film script, which was originally written by Jon Spaihts.

The pic has a June 8th, 2012 release date.

Butler Circles Motor City While Liam Lurks Luketic's Next

Gerard Butler is the latest person in talks to star in the male lead role in Albert Hughes' "Motor City" reports Variety. Earlier this month--it was reported that Jake Gyllenhaal was tipped to replace Dominic Cooper in the movie--but Jake left over scheduling concerns.

The story follows a small time crook who is framed and sent to jail, only to go after those who put him there after he is released wanting to get back the woman he loves (Amber Heard).

Gary Oldman will play a kingpin in Motor City who has his hooks into the woman.

Chad St. John’s screenplay is unique in that it only has but one line of dialogue and made it on to Hollywood’s Black List back in 2009, the list of the year’s best unproduced scripts.

Joel Silver and Andrew Rona will produce the film.

Shooting hopes to begin this June.

As Butler circles "Motor City", what is the fate of the diamond heist thriller "Brilliant"?

The Gillian Gorfil's script follows a small-time criminal who partners with a female thief to pull off a daring diamond heist.

Casting for the female lead is now underway

Director Robert Luketic, who previously worked with Butler on "The Ugly Truth", is calling action on the film.

Gorfil, Sidney Kimmel, Gary Lucchesi and Tom Rosenberg will produce.

Butler replaced Eric Bana on "Brilliant" a few weeks ago and at the time the film was looking to get going in May. Now with 'Motor' reving for a summer start, it looks like "Brilliant" will be pushed back.

Chatting with The Daily Telegraph this week, Luketic couldn't confirm when or where the film will be shot.

Luketic says "I have two films competing with each other. It's now a matter of the stars coming into alignment and small miracles being performed."

The other film he refers to is an as yet untitled film with The Hunger Games stud Liam Hemsworth.

"I can't really talk about it but we have had a couple of meetings and he has formally come on board. It will be shot in New York and Mumbai."

Sony Plays Instruments Again

Sony Pictures has come back to help produce the big screen adaptation of Cassandra Clare's supernatural novel series The Mortal Instruments reports Deadline.

Jessica Postigo and I. Marlene King wrote the adapted script. Robert Kulzer, Michael Lynne and Robert Shaye are producing.

Jamie Campbell Bower had been cast as Jace Wayland, one of the best Shadowhunters before the pic was halted It's not clear if Bower is still involved--The Jace role had Alex Pettyfer in talks for it at one point as well

Scott Charles Stewart was set to helm but vacated after the collapse instead choosing to start work on a TV series based on his film Legion. Now director Harald Zwart (The Karate Kid remake) has taken over.

Production on Mortal Instruments is set to begin on August 15th in Toronto

With The Hunger Games making a mint--it is no wonder that Sony jumped back in to partner on the project.

Who Will Play Nora In The Thin Man Remake With Depp?

Eva Green, Amy Adams, Emma Stone, Carey Mulligan, Kristen Wiig, Emily Blunt and Isla Fisher along with the still in the mix Rachel Weisz are all up for the lead role of Nora Charles in Rob Marshall's remake of the classic detective comedy "The Thin Man" says Deadline.

The 1934 film starring William Powell and Myrna Loy, based on Dashiell Hammett's book, follows an alcoholic former P.I. named Nick Charles and his wealthy heiress wife Nora who investigate a murder that involves an eccentric inventor and his bizarre family.

These polished and sophisticated society types spend as much time engaging in witty banter with each other as they do investigating the crime.
Five sequels were produced.

David Niven and Maggie Smith's memorable roles in 1976 comedy classic "Murder By Death" were directly inspired by the series.

It's expected that the novel will be used as a starting point. The story follows an alcoholic former P.I. named Nick Charles and his wealthy heiress wife Nora who investigate a murder that involves an eccentric inventor and his bizarre family.

Johnny Depp plays Nick--Of the ladies up for Nora I would love to see Stone get the part--Mulligan would be my second choice--with Green (who worked with Depp on Dark Shadows) my 3rd choice

Shattered Glass writer Billy Ray has been charged to pen the script taking over for David Koepp who himself replaced Permanent Midnight: author and screenwriter Jerry Stahl ("Bad Boys 2") who was previously attached to write the script but apparently never got going

The various actresses will meet with Marshall next week about the part.

Depp, Marshall, John DeLuca,.Christi Dembrowski and Kevin McCormick are producing.

How Much More $$ Will Hunger Games Make In Week #2?

This weekend at movies the first Snow White movie of 2012 Mirror Mirror (reviews)--is released; And the adventure sequel Wrath of the Titans (reviews) arrives....

Neither film is expected to dethrone the behemoth that is The Hunger Games...

Pamela McClintock of THR:

The domestic box office should prosper in a big way this weekend as Warner Bros.' sequel Wrath of the Titans and Relativity Media's Snow White retelling Mirror Mirror enter the marketplace, which remains on fire thanks to holdover The Hunger Games.

Hunger Games is widely expected to retain the No. 1 spot in its second weekend. The Lionsgate pic -- based on the wildly popular young-adult book by Suzanne Collins -- has grossed $181.6 million in its first six days of play in North America, the sixth-best showing ever.

Hunger Games, which has eclipsed Dr. Seuss' The Lorax as the top-grossing film of 2012 year domestically, should cross $200 million on Friday (Lorax has earned $180.5 million). Box office observers believe the movie, which opened to a record $152.5 million last weekend, could gross north of $60 million in its second outing.

Wrath of the Titans is estimated to open in the $35 million-to-$40 million range. The 3D sequel returns Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes in the lead roles and is directed by Jonathan Liebesman.

Louis Leterrier directed Clash of the Titans, which debuted just north of $61 million during Easter weekend in 2010. Warners doesn't expect the sequel to reach the same level, since this weekend isn't a holiday. But by opening a week before Easter, Warners can take advantage of spring break, which is staggered over the next two weeks.

In 2010, Warners was widely criticized for rushing to convert Clash of the Titans into 3D in order to boost its box-office potential. Wrath was also converted to 3D after it was shot, but the quality of the conversion was far superior, according to the studio.

Mirror Mirror -- headlining Julia Roberts, Lily Collins and Armie Hammer -- hopes to take advantage of being the only PG title in the marketplace until April 27, when Sony opens The Pirates! Band of Misfits.

Relativity is projecting an opening in the $22 milion-to-$25 million range for Mirror Mirror. The retelling of the classic fairy tale is an important property for Relativity as the company tries to produce its own films. Mirror Mirror, shot in Montreal, cost $80 million to make after rebates. Relativity sold off foreign rights and says its exposure on the production budget is $30 million (that doesn't include marketing costs).

Mirror Mirror is the first of two Snow White movies opening this year, though Universal's Snow White and the Huntsman, which opens in the summer, isn't a family film.

While Wrath of the Titans is tracking best among males, Mirror Mirror is skewing female.

At the specialty box office, all eyes will be on Lee Hirsch's high-profile documentary Bully, which received an R rating for language. The Weinstein Co. and Hirsch unsuccessfully fought to lower the film's rating to PG-13, saying the R rating will make it difficult for kids -- the very demo the documentary was made for -- to see it. So The Weinstein Co. opted to release Bully unrated.

The film opens this week in five theaters in New York and Los Angeles, including two AMC locations. AMC CEO Gerry Lopez has been one of those supporting Bully, and the circuit will allow kids under 17 to see Bully as long as they have verbal or written permission.
