McAuliffe Talks "Kite" Live Action Remake

A live action remake of the infamous 1998 anime film Kite will hit theaters next year

The story is a character-driven actioneer about a young woman (India Eisley) living in a failed state, post-financial collapse, where the corrupt security force profits in human trafficking. When her police father is slain, she vows to track the murderer down with the help of her father's ex-partner (Samuel L. Jackson) - unaware he is the man who had her father killed.

Australian actor Callan McAuliffe plays the best friend of the female lead in the film and sat down with Empire to chat adapting an animated flick:

"I suppose in an effort to make it a little more accessible, it has been toned down a tiny bit, but it is still exceedingly violent and there is a lot of the original material in there. It's definitely not something that young children should watch! It still maintains a lot of the elements that fans will be happy with. There are things it's impossible to get across with live action, such as the expressiveness of the characters, which would be overly theatrical in live action. So it has a more cinematic feel to it."

South African director Ralph Ziman took the helm the live action remake of Yasuomi Umetsu’s pic replacing the late David R. Ellis.

Moises Cosio, Alejandro Saevich, Anant Singh and Brian Cox are producing.
