MOS 2: Eisenberg Is Lex, Irons Is Alfred

How about this news....Warner Bros has announced that Jesse Eisenberg will play Lex Luthor and Jeremy Irons has been cast as butler Alfred Pennyworth in Zack Snyder's upcoming Superman/Batman team-up Man of Steel Sequel.

The Eisenberg casting sent social media abuzz for sure partly because the announcement was a time coming and Eisenberg's name came out of nowhere--it's Bizarro World indeed. Like Ben as Bats though--I have a strong feeling the uproar will pass. Jessie would not be my first phone call--yes but I keep thinking of Heath Ledger as the The Joker in The Dark Knight--a skepticism I shared...at the time he was announced--Only to have egg on my face 18 months later--relax kids.

"Lex Luthor is often considered the most notorious of Superman's rivals, his unsavory reputation preceding him since 1940," Snyder said in a statement. "What's great about Lex is that he exists beyond the confines of the stereotypical nefarious villain. He's a complicated and sophisticated character whose intellect, wealth and prominence position him as one of the few mortals able to challenge the incredible might of Superman. Having Jesse in the role allows us to explore that interesting dynamic, and also take the character in some new and unexpected directions."

About Irons, Snyder added, "As everyone knows, Alfred is Bruce Wayne's most trusted friend, ally and mentor, a noble guardian and father figure. He is an absolutely critical element in the intricate infrastructure that allows Bruce Wayne to transform himself into Batman. It is an honor to have such an amazingly seasoned and gifted actor as Jeremy taking on the important role of the man who mentors and guides the guarded and nearly impervious façade that encapsulates Bruce Wayne."

There were reports that suggested that the chatter about former "Breaking Bad" star Bryan Cranston was playing Lex in the upcoming movie were true were denied by the actor. We were told that Joaquin Phoenix came up as a contender for Lex. Denzel Washington was also among a list potentials for Lex generated by Thinkmcflythink as were Idris Elba and

MOS 2 will see the return of Henry Cavill as Superman/Clark Kent, Ben Affleck will play Bruce Wayne/Batman amid lots of fallout--while Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane are set to reprise their roles as Lois Lane, Perry White and Martha Kent."Fast Five" star Gal Gadot appears as Wonder Woman

How big Gadot's role as WW is, is unknown at this point. Godot beat out Olga Kurylenko and Elodie Yung for the role. Thor: The Dark World" actress is Jaimie Alexander was also linked.

Some time ago there was noise that the production was seeking is a love interest for the Dark Knight in the film. The Type? A woman in their late 20s of any ethnicity.  Adding that she be tall and "possess physicality".

The notice DID NOT give a name for the character, which led to speculation that it was anyone from Vicki Vale to Wonder Woman. A leaked casting call had fanboys thinking that the Amazon warrior was in the pic.

A love interest for Bats suggests that he will have a larger part in the film than expected.

Australian actor Callan Mulvey ("Zero Dark Thirty) was being eyed for the role of the (unnamed) villain in the film. Speculation is that Jason Momoa is up for the bad guy--say perhaps Doomsday or Metallo. Or another notion is that he might play alien hero Martian Manhunter who also happens to like Oreo Cookies. The imposing actor denies that he's up for a role

Singer Justin Bieber uploaded a photo on his Instagram account showing him holding up what appeared to be a personalized script for the film with the hashtag "#Robin" but it turned out to be a prop for a Funny or Die skit.

More rumors ran recently that Girls co-star Adam Driver is the frontrunner to play the character of Dick Grayson, the post-Robin Nightwing incarnation in the film. The original story mentioned that two other actors are in the mix for the role. Less than 24 hours later "Gossip Girl" and "Easy A" star Penn Badgley and "The Perks of Being A Wallflower" and "We Need To Talk About Kevin" star Ezra Miller were said to be in mix for the part. Driver denies any such talk

The speedster The Flash is said to be in the script.

Meantime: The star of The CW's popular Arrow TV series Stephen Amell posted a "Justice League" comic image on his official Facebook page.  We already know that Flash (Grant Gustin) will show up there for a few eps before getting his own show in 2014 Could more of DC Entertainment's "Justice League" be coming to "Arrow"? For now the DC Cinematic Universe will NOT co-exist with the TV heroics...There are rumors about where the films might go as well as the  TV side of things...

These hero introductions would make sense if Warners is ever gonna make a "Justice League" movie.

"Man Of Steel" writer David S. Goyer was back on the keyboard but now--THR reports that  Chris Terrio, who won an Oscar for writing Affleck's “Argo,” has been hired to write the latest draft of the MOS 2 script.

Goyer is in the midst of developing several projects including an adaptation of author Neil Gaiman's  popular comic book series Sandman, which he’ll produce with Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Christopher Nolan and Charles Roven return to executive produce the multi-hero film.

Sources say the new movie is going for the tone of the relationship and fight seen in Frank Miller’s 1980s ground-breaking mini-series The Dark Knight Returns.

The release has been delayed a full 10 months for a number of reasons. As a result, the original release date of July 17th 2015 is no longer doable. Now, the studio is targeting a May 6th 2016 release. They quickly inserted the fantasy Pan into that original slot.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier: Evans Speaks

"Captain America: The Winter Soldier" star Chris Evans talked to IGN about how both his character and the tone of the series has changed:

"In this movie it's about him trying to not just acclimate to the modern world, but I think it's always been Cap's goal to do what's right and to be of service and to help where he can.In this movie I think the question is, 'Well, what is right?' I think it was a lot easier in the 1940s to know who the evil was -- there's no disputing Nazis are bad! Now it becomes a little more of a difficult answer. There's a lot more of a gray area of 'What is the right thing? Are you of service to that cause? That becomes a tricky dispute for Cap, because things were just done differently in the 1940s. The threats are different now. Precautionary measures that are taken now can be questionable and somewhat suspect in his eyes. So it's a tough hurdle for him to jump."

The story follows the acclaimed comic storyline The Winter Soldier by author Ed Brubaker, who along with artist Steve Epting, in which Captain America's (Chris Evans) sidekick Bucky (Sebastian Stan) is resurrected as a brainwashed super-assassin known as the Winter Solider. The tale also follows that Peggy's (played by Hayley Atwell in Captain America: The First Avenger) niece Sharon (Revenge star Emily VanCamp) meets Cap.

The film could be seen as a reboot of the series already, a very different approach to character from who we saw both the first film and "The Avengers".

"Well, he is a really human superhero. He doesn't shoot lightning, he doesn't fly, he has very meat-and-potatoes-type powers. So I think it's only appropriate that the tone and the theme fits more of a human element. It does have kind of a grounded, political thriller tone to it, and I think that just goes hand in hand with the character. It just works. Like I said earlier, they're also trying to infuse much more human conflict that doesn't necessarily have to do with fighting monsters and doing giant stunts. It's just about him coping with moral issues, about right and wrong, good and bad. That's stuff we can all relate to."

Evans also touched upon the interpersonal relationships and how they both ground and make Rogers a more interesting character:

"Cap's such a good guy, it's hard for him to bleed -- not just literally, but figuratively, you know what I mean? He doesn't want to burden anyone with his struggles, so any way we can push him in more of a human direction where he does show weakness and he does struggle and he does connect with people and show vulnerability, I think that grounds him a little bit. It just makes him more interesting. All the relationships, especially with Natasha () and Sam (Anthony Mackie). Even though we do have Winter Soldier, he's not, you know -- we're doing third act stuff right now. For the meat of the film, for the majority of the film, the connections that he makes that I think really bring him to life are with Natasha and Sam"

Anthony Mackie is poised to play Harlem crime fighter Falcon. Cobie Smulders will reprise her role of Maria Hill. She joins her boss in The Avengers co-star Samuel L. Jackson  and Scarlett Johansson. for the film. Frank Grillo ("The Grey," "Warrior") will play the villain Crossbones in the sequel. Toby Jones, has confirmed to Hey U Guys that he will reprise the role of the villain Armin Zola. Maximiliano Hernández said via Twitter that he will reprise his "Avengers" role of Agent Jasper Sitwell in the sequel. Robert Redford (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid) has entered talks for a senior leadership role in S.H.I.E.L.D. UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre will play villain Batroc the Leaper, an infamous mercenary in the Cap mythology.

Joe Russo and Anthony Russo are directing the sequel, using a script by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

"Captain America 2" launches first in the UK and parts of Europe on March 26th ahead of a major global release (including the U.S.) the following week on April 3rd & 4th.

The Russo boys will return to direct "Captain America 3"

The Amazing Spider-Man 2: Superbowl Ad Part 1

A teaser for the full ad that will air during Sunday's telecast of Super Bowl XLVIII is online for Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Andrew Garfield will return as Peter Parker and Emma Stone is gonna reprise her role as Gwen Stacy. Do these set pics confirm that the classic story The Night Gwen Stacy Died is part of the film? For the record Stone endorsed the idea in August 2012 when The Amazing Spider-Man was still in theaters...Stone was asked by Ryan Seacrest about her character's future to which she said: "I think the intention the whole time has been to tell Gwen's story as close to the comic as possible".

Dane DeHaan ("Chronicle") has won the role of Harry Osborn Osborn of course is Peter Parker's best friend and eventual enemy who was played by James Franco previously. Jamie Foxx will be playing bad guy Electro. Paul Giamatti plays the villain, the Rhino. Sally Field is back as Aunt May. Chris Cooper has been cast as Norman Osborn--who eventually becomes Spidey's number one foe--The Green Goblin--The character was played previously by Willem Dafoe Felicity Jones (Like Crazy), plays Norman's girlfriend in the film. Former Office star B.J. Novak has an unspecified role in the film. While there was speculation that actress Sarah Gadon ("Cosmopolis," "A Dangerous Method") was going to be the new Mary Jane Watson, given the fact that Shailene Woodley's performance as the character had been cut.  As it turns out though Gadon DOES appear in "Amazing 2" after all as an entirely different character. She is actually playing an android cop.

Here's the Sony Pictures' official synopsis:

"We've always known that Spider-Man's most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead. It's great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there's no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp."

Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner wrote the script based on a previous draft by James Vanderbilt.

Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach will produce.

The new film is now in post-production to meet its May 2nd 2014 release date.

Both The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 4 already have release dates--The writers of Amazing 2 are also set to return for the 3rd film. The series will grow from there to include other members of the extended Spidey family

Box Office Preview: Chick Magnets

Hollywood will counter Super Bowl XLVIII with a pair of chick flicks...

, , and face That Awkward Moment (reviews) that happens in every relationship; and star in 's film adaptation of author Joyce Maynard's book entitled Labor Day (reviews).

Pamela McClintock of THR:

Instead of trying to compete directly with Sunday's Super Bowl, Hollywood will attempt to do an end run around the big game by introducing a pair of new comedies targeting females.

That Awkward Moment -- marking the first release from Focus Features under Peter Schlessel's rule -- hopes to entice younger women intrigued by Zac Efron, Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan, who play three best friends facing pivotal points in their respective relationships.

The R-rated indie film is poised to open in the $10 million to $12 million range, a solid start considering the movie's $8 million budget. Schlessel acquired rights to Awkward Moment for roughly $1.5 million when he was running FilmDistrict and brought the title with him to Focus.

Directed and written by Tom Gormican, Awkward Moment opens Friday in 2,809 theaters and is targeted at women between the ages of 17 and 34.

Jason Reitman's Labor Day is tracking best among women over the age of 45 as it prepares to open Friday in roughly 2,500 locations. The comedy, expected to open in the $6 million to $8 million range, stars Kate Winslet, Josh Brolin, Gattlin Griffith and Tobey Maguire.

From Paramount and Indian Paintbrush, Labor Day cost $18 million to make. It's the first time that one of Reitman's movies has opened nationwide; the rest have all opened in limited runs before slowly expanding. Labor Day, about a woman and her son who bring a stranger home over the holiday, was originally supposed to debut in theaters late last year, but its release was pushed back.

The wild card of the weekend is Disney's animated blockbuster Frozen. Disney is releasing a sing-along version of the family film in 2,057 theaters on Friday (the total location count is 2,754), and it's not inconceivable that Frozen could beat the competition, considering it made $9 million last weekend.

On Wednesday, Frozen -- which is heading into its 10th weekend in nationwide release -- raced past the $350 million mark at the domestic box office, pushing its worldwide total north of $812 million.

The soundtrack, featuring the movie's nine songs, is also doing blockbuster business and returned to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in the week ending Jan. 26. Frozen is the first soundtrack since High School Musical 2 in 2007 to spend at least three weeks at at No. 1.

Avengers 2: Soo-hyun Kim Is A Bad Chick

Korean actress  will play a bad gal role in the superhero team sequel "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" for writer/director Joss Whedon says Twitch. Kim is experienced in doing action and is fluent in English. She will take part in sequences set around Seoul's Gangnam neighborhood along with Incheon City.

The sequel DOES NOT follow the Age of Ultron comics storyline--in which the big bad Ultron was created by Hank Pym who becomes Ant-Man. James Spader will both voice Ultron, and he'll have to do some kind of motion-capture as well--This news puts to rest the most popular theory suggesting that Tony Stark's (Robert Downey Jr,) robot butler J.A.R.V.I.S. (voiced by Paul Bettany) operating system from the Iron Man Films would turn into the villain.

Marvel vets RDJ, Chris Evans Chris Hemsworth Scarlett Johansson Samuel L. Jackson Jeremy Renner Mark Ruffalo, Clark Gregg and Cobie Smulders are all expected back Two time Iron Man co-star Don Cheadle is involved this time out according to USA Today

Thomas Kretschmann has landed the role of 2nd bad guy Baron von Strucker. In the comics, the seemingly immortal Strucker is one of the leaders of Hydra, and an enemy of both S.H.I.E.L.D and The Avengers cc seemingly beat out rumored candidates Marton Csokas and Dougray Scott who were being considered for the BvS role. The character will have Wanda Maximoff, a.k.a. Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and her twin brother Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) apparently working for him in the sequel (American Horror Story favorite Evan Peters plays a different incarnation of the speedy superhero in Bryan Singer's "X-Men: Days of Future Past"--now in post-production--that film hits screens May 23rd 2014.).

Radar Online has an unidentified source that claims that RDJ is campaigning to get his pals Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster a role in the movie.

Production on the 'Avengers' sequel is slated to begin in March to meet a release date of May 1, 2015. Bad Taste reports that scenes for the film will be shot in parts of northern Italy, including the Bard Fortress
