Chiwetel Ejiofor Eyed For "Marching Powder"

Deadline reports that New Regency Enterprises has acquired authors Rusty Young and Thomas McFadden's non-fiction book "Marching Powder" and will develop it as a starring vehicle for "12 Years a Slave" star Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Ejiofor would play McFadden, a convicted English drug trafficker who ran tours inside Bolivia's notorious San Pedro prison. Young, an Australian journalist, heard about McFadden's prison life while backpacking and he bribed the guards to allow him to share a cell with McFadden.

The two went on to chronicle life in the strange prison. Cells had to be bought like real estate, people would live with imprisoned family members, and cocaine laboratories were running within at night.

“Marching Powder” was previously set up in 2008 with Don Cheadle playing McFadden and José Padilha directing.
